Short films

As you all know that District 9 was actually born from a short by Neill titled Alive in Joburg.

Here is another Scifi short. It is very romantic. I like how it is shot. The sun shining on the clothes and that rather warm future. I hope someone takes this short and make a full length feature. Shot with a Panasonic DVX100 cam corder with a 35mm adaptor .

NC16

Enjoy. It is HD so don't be afraid to go full screen.

This short is definitely a keeper.

You can download the PAL DVD version here as well as other formats:

EDIT: Decided to change the title since I have been putting up links to some good shorts.

Nice ....

Another good one, not sci-fi, but a love story (apology if someone else has already posted this).

Absolutely beautiful!

The brevity of shorts leads your mind to wander and draw your own conclusions.

Here is another strange one. It is called Zucht which is sigh in Dutch. You can draw your own conclusions due to its ambiguouty. You can see that it has a somewhat LGBT theme but the boy is growing up. Lots of interpretation can be pulled from this short.

Lovely! Only the Dutch are so open with teenage sexuality.

I love short films, the way I love short stories. They are so different from their longer counterparts.

I think the reason why they appeal to a lot of imaginative people is that they don't spell everything out. There is very little time so what counts the the acting and the brief dialogue. The brief dialogue just gives enough for the brain to process.

Actually the teenage sexuality in Zucht is very much like what most young boys will go through. There will be instances of a "man crush". It is a love for a man who may not just be a father figure but can be a mentor or brother. Upon watching it, I have to reach far back to my growing years. Feelings of confusion and then forming to a firm sexuality. Sexuality as defined as to which sex you are attracted to. In my case the opposite sex.

The boy in Zucht is somewhat saying "goodbye" to the girl's father as a crush since he now is growing up and his sexuality awakened by the girl.

This one is very sad. This one is called Silence.

This another one frequently shown on Hallmark Channel as a filler in-between programmes.

It is called HMAS Unicorn.

The Screen Australia entry is here:

Very creepy. Based on a real disappearance on Lake Grace in Australia.

It is very creepy. I am amazed by the atmosphere it created even in such a sunny and bright day on a vacation lake.

Here is another one from Denmark.

The theme is a coming of age theme. Very funny. I guess he got a lot to learn. I still haven't figured them out yet.

Below is the original theatrical version. Uncensored.

Try making something like that in Sg

The boy in Zucht is somewhat saying "goodbye" to the girl's father as a crush since he now is growing up and his sexuality awakened by the girl.
I see it differently. The boy is hiding his love, and yet desperate to express it, hence the rushing swim back and forth and the love symbol on the father's back. The fact that the girl's eyes are closed during that time is tellingly symbolic, it's the love that dares not speak its name. The kiss with the girl at the end is the final act of disguise. All gay men in the closet go through this process

The smile in the end from him after he discovers she was using him as a "research subject" says it all. He is in love and he doesn't mind being used.

The score by Thomas Haardell is very catchy and good too.

Another short film I just found.

Warning: Strong language, gun violence, vomitting and scenes involving illicit drug use.

You might want to slash your wrists after viewing.
