Any G705 users?

Hi

I am contemplating buying this phone or N95 (8gb). Previous satisfied user of k800i and currently using a >1mth old N85 which is giving me loads of problems...

Functions needed in a phone besides making calls:
1. SMS / MMS / Video call
2. 3.2 MP camera min.
3. Wifi

thinking of getting G705...but seems like there are not much comments here...aprpeciate if users of G705 can come forward to provide feedback on this phone..thanks!

Both the video call camera and the 3.2 MP camera are horrendous. They take extreme grainy pictures that a W850i can do better. Slightly lag but you'll get used to it. Don't recommend this phone for people with sweaty palms/hands. Wifi pretty stable though. Youtube application doesn't work, can only watch videos through conventional browsers like Opera Mini.

Mine is first generation when it first launched in SG at suntec xmas sale. You sure yours can stream videos? Mine can see the preview but when u search for videos through the application it will say failed to load/failed to find video etc.

it can stream from the youtube application. the search function also works. loading youtube in the built-in web browser redirects to youtube moble, also no problem viewing.

the internet and streaming settings might be already set by singtel. i connected via wifi at home (singnet) and wireless@sg.

didn't try streaming youtube on 3g though... expensive for me (pay per use)

other general comments:
  • general responsiveness is okay except that it's slow accessing the sim card
  • picture quality from the camera is okay in bright light but grainy in low light
  • camera viewfinder is laggy
  • web browsing is rather slow but the connection is generally stable unless the signal is weak
  • new user interface: more animations, but startup is slower than earlier models with the older interface
  • no hangs so far in one week, but i turn off my phone before i sleep maybe those who run 24/7 might encounter more hanging problems?

Hmm, I've not turn off my phone for 2 weeks and it's still going strong! Haha, maybe just some slight lags when accessing contacts.

When you have access to Wifi it will automatically use Wifi to surf the net. It only use WAP/GPRS/3G when you do not have Wifi.

Thanks! I turned off the option "Allow local connections?", and it kept using WAP/GPRS/3G to surf.

Does using google maps use WAP/GPRS/3G? Because I keep seeing the globe appearing.
