A lot of people who say no good, aren't the actual users themselves. Many are hearsay only. And for those who are real users, I really doubt their IT skills.
Been using Acer notebooks at home, office, and recommending to friends/colleagues/relatives. None of them complained of any problem for the past 5 years.
Of course I'm not saying that Acer won't spoil. To me, all are the same. By the way, my office's Fujitsu/HP have higher failure rate than Acer (0 incident)...
Stick with the newer Aspire, Gemstone, Timeline or One series. No major problems.
Older models like Travelmate, old Aspires & Extensa have poor design in terms of thermal dissipation, hence overheating issues very common.
Personally support & use Acer for giving the big boys in the notebook industry a run for their money. Support until they are now the world's no. 2 PC & notebook maker.
I don't own a Acer laptop yet (am looking at the Aspire 5935G though).
Personally I own a 4 year old (I think) Acer Veriton 7700G desktop . The system is still working fine for basic net surf, documents etc etc, I've nothing to complain about that BUT I do have something to say about the customer service.
I lost my OS Recovery CD and tried getting a copy from the service center. BUT I was in for a shock when they told me that they do not provide the recovery CD; I had to bring the unit down to the service center for them to do a fresh installation of the OS. AND that will cost me $50 before GST PER installation. No sir, u can't buy the recovery CD that you've lost.
At my workplace, I deal with HP laptops and when I called them for a recovery disc, it costs about $30 (can't really rem the exact figure cos company paid for it) and it was readily available.
I do hope the laptops are a different story but then again, most if not all laptops today have a recovery partition built into the HDD already.
I have bought all 3 (though Aspire One A150 is for my fiancee)... my desktop is fine (bought March 2008), and I'm currently using a Timeline, also quite good so far but only bought in July.
Very happy overall.
Still if people ask me for recommendation I probably tell them Asus or MSI Acer is for cheapskates like me
