Recommendation For A New Notebook

Hello everyone,

My sister was planning to get a new notebook but she's unsure on which of the many notebooks to get.

Main usage would be on word documents, surfing the net and presentation purposes; no gaming will be done. Her budget would be around S$1,200.

Any advice on which brands should be stayed clear off? Specific recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

I prefer Lenovo.. Y450 series

Your sis can go for the model with T6600 2.2GHz, 2Gb DDR3, 320Gb HDD with Intel GMA X4500. Saw it at Harvey Norman @ Funan selling @ $1199 with ram uprgade, external hdd & a few other items as well.

Not really looking forward to notebooks from Lenovo; maybe because it's from China?

i think your main concern should be "made in China" vs "made in other countries" label?

anyway, with that type of budget, i think its 95% chance its a made in China label.
coz even if you get other brands like acer, sony vaio (low end), or dell, for example, it will still be made in china.

hence there shouldn't be any prejudice towards lenovo..

Anyway, if you are biased towards any china brand product... guess you might want to take a look at vaio then? its a japan brand.. but still made in china.. lol

http://www.sony.com.sg/product/vgn-cs33g

price is 1499 including gst.

prob you might* get it at some places slightly lower.

The thing is I'm fine with things made in China as most things are nowadays but I'm just cautious against brands like Lenovo; that's about it.

well, lenovo is a big company. they are the 4th largest PC maker in the world, and the largest in China.

they took over the business of IBM pc sector, and have a revenue of usd $16.4 billion in year 2008

Almost all laptops are made in China now to bring retail prices this low.
As a general guide, laptops that come with a 3 year (or 1 year extendable to 3) are of better build quality. Go for well known tier 1 brands such as HP, Compaq, Lenovo.
Get the highest spec processor or graphics (if you need) hat your budget allows.
