Try Compaq CQ35, saw at Harvey Norman Parkway SGD$1399, spec is
P8800, G105 512mb vRam, 4gb ram, 500 gb HDD
But I bought Asus N81VP, SGD$1498
P7450, HD 4560 1gb vRam, 4gb ram, 500 gb HDD
just Buy any CPU you like in ebay and change the cpu yourself.
I notice that the T9400 is very much faster then P7450.
I use P7450, Facebook, load 2 flash program, Jerky already. T9400 4th flash program then start to get jerky. If big flash, 3rd one slightly jerky.

Meaning open up the whole laptop to chnage? Confirm compatible? Will void warranty right?

IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad.
The entry level R series should have one SKU with your listed specifications, and as a bonus come with strengthened body.

The main difference between the P7450 and T9400 is the amount of cache, therefore there is a huge performance difference for processor-intensive programs.
Dont bother trying to swap the processor, hard work required involving dismantling many parts and voiding of warranty. May require soldering for certain OEMs

Yes.
P series is the medium voltage version of Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn, that place emphasis on reduced power consumption(at expense of performance) while T series is mainstream.
Secondly, the 8 series means the (Core 2 Duo)Penryn processor inside comes with 3 mb of L2 cache while the higher end 9 has 6mb.
Core 2 Duo P8800 2667 MHz 3 MB 1066 MT/s
Core 2 Duo T9400 2533 MHz 6 MB 1066 MT/s

The only difference between the sub-models is the clock speed(and VT technology), for the case of P8700 and P8800 it is only 134mhz speed difference.
Clock speed does not means performance.

chose the laptop that has easy access to the heat sink area just by taking out a plastic panel, thus you don't have to dismantle the whole set. change the cpu after your warranty expire. by then the cpu price should have drop a fair bit.
better chose a laptop with a big strong heatsink/fan. heat kills the laptop.
now I have change the CPU. I intend to keep the org cpu, if there's any issue with my laptop within the warranty period (2 yrs), I just put back the org cpu and bring it for service. after service put back the T9400, if heat is a concern to you then get only P9500 from ebay but it's more expensive then T9400. or get the T9400 but undervolte it to the minimum, may even produce lesser heat then the P9500. but it take some trail and error. I read in some forum that someone is able to undervote their CPU minus 0.125V from default and it's 12 degree colder then default.
Looking at the Die of the P8800 and P9500, P8800 is square while the 9 series is rectangle thus bigger.

well, I don't think I'm in the position to tell you weather it's good a not. I have a dead lenovo before, 5 days after warranty and I will never buy lenovo again. that's all I can say.
I rather get acer then lenovo, at least I know I pay lesser if I get acer.
Notebook really depends on luck. some ppl buy a cheap acer notebook. it's still working after 4 yrs, some have so much problem with good brands too. but choosing a laptop with good design heatsink/fan can minimize your risk greatly. always research then laptop you are interested in in the internet and check if it has a heat problem? problematic etc before you buy.
that's alol I can say
