Stay StarHub or switch to SingNet?

Wondering if anyone in the Novena area has experience with SingNet?

The background is like this. I'm currently on StarHub Premium. My contract expired in Jan so I'm thinking about switching to SingNet and taking advantage of the MacBook promo. StarHub has been mostly trouble free for me, except at night time when it takes forever just to load a webpage.

I currently also have StarHub's digital voice (it came with the broadband) as well as their mobile and TV services. If I switch internet to SingNet I will lose the 10% discount or whatever it is for signing up with all 3 of their services but that shouldn't be a big deal. If I switch to SingNet, do I get a new telephone line with the service or do I need to sign up for one? And do I need a new router for ADSL or can I reuse mine?

Just looking for some advice on what I should do. Thanks

Hi,

You would require to activate the singtel residential line at a 1 time registration cost of 53.50 incl of gst if u wanna retent your old starhub # you require to pay SGD 20 excl. of gst

there will be annually charge of 107 if u wanna maintain a singtel residential line.

i am gonna switch back to starhub.. but still deciding..

hm.

$107 a year is ok... I think my free digital voice is only for 1 year anyways, then I have to start paying.

Now I'm just not sure about the performance compared to SH and a lot of modem troubles I've been reading about. Right now my router is this one:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=273526

Dunno if it will work or not.

2years ago, i'm a starhub user.

Sometimes I find starhub loading abit slow especially in the "peak hours". My friend told me Singnet is better. Thus after 2months, I signed up a Singnet plan for 2years.

Then the problem starts.... Whenever my mum using the phone, I'll get DC. I'll "accidently" ripped off her phone connection for my stable connection. ^^;;;

Last year, I moved house, phone hasnt been a problem, just that I have 3 phone plug in my house, 1 living room, 2 room. One of the room plug for internet. And, i can only choose one plug to use, either in my living or the other room. I use the distiller thingy and called Singtel and everything i can do to make all 3 plugs work. But till no valid. 3 plugs still cant co-exist.

AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, take note, Singtel customer service is only on standby from 8am to 12am. Nobody give you a damn when you desperately need assistant at 12.05am.

This May, my contact with Singtel will end. and I will be back to the friendly customer service that will assist me at 2am whenever I have any problem.

i switched to starhub 1.5years ago to singnet....i must say the connection is not stable. I keep getting dropped connection and the 2wire modem supplied takes a long time to get a signal. Now the frequency of disconnection increases! I am certainly unhappy.

I read other forums and others have voiced similar issues either with the modem or with the line signal.

In my own opinion..

Starhub Cable PROS

: Fast download - BT, Files
: Fast surf using local sites
: Inconsistent speed esp at nite
: Free access to 9 services, please refer to their website - incl msn , mapleSEA,etc

Starhub Cable CONS

: Slow video streaming - Youtube
: Lag when u play game/surf overseas

Singnet PROS

: Once it is stable it really is.
: Slower download
: Fast upload - good to become a seed in BT lol
: Constand speed, delicated speed

Singnet CONS

: DC at times, it will screwed u if u play online gaming
: Once it is unstable, it really is!
: Customer serivce only till 12:30am
: Complain about their line, they told me my modem and router is at fault.

That's all. i hope i dun miss out anything.
if i wanna add i will edit this.

Ahhhhhhh so hard to decide... all the problems with ADSL users and the modems are a bit scary, but then the promo is so tempting.

switch to singnet

I have been a starhub broadband user since day 1 (10-15 years lost count). Just a month ago i decided to switch to singnet 3mb plan. I never regretted it. Even though SH has increased the speed to 8mb I have never never reach that speed. The very best is 3mb. Surfing at night is a pain in the neck. Sometime loading hardware zone takes more than 5 mins for the 1st page to appear.

Sing net gave me 4 filters when i mentioned that i have 4 extensions in my home. Each extension has its own filter and I never had a problem with line dropping when the other phone is in use. The speed is stable at any time of the day. I have 4 users in my home. As for their customer service, i called them when i was installing a wireless router behind their modem and they were on the phone with me giving me detail instructions to activate my wireless router.

If u cant decide which way to go, go for singnet.

Be careful on those that paint a rosy pictures on his/her favorite ISP.There's no perfect ISP in SG or in this world. Each have their turn of issues and problems. Beware of those that praise their ISP as if they are from heaven, Also beware of those that curse their ISP as if it is from Hell. Take every thing with a pinch of salt. analyze the pro and cons calmly and come to your own decision.

For me,I use MOL and DV. I am ok with the service except the slower video streaming. Other than that, no big trouble.
