Ethernet Cable Tester

Hi all,

Does anybody have the Ethernet Cable tester? Noobie here who tried to crimp RJ45s into my lan cables but not getting any response. My worry is that there is something wrong with the cable itself which my reno company placed inside my false ceiling.

Can rent or borrow?

Thanks and regards,

Nestor

Hook between networking devices will reveal whether if cable working. Else some of the older dlink router allows you to test the cable as well as reporting the length/breakage

if not working then just cut the end and hook a new jack.. unlikely the cable it self broke.

It's easier to get the wires into the socket than the plug, so might as well get some wall sockets instead. And it will be useful later on.

DIY tester? sounds good!

Anyway, followed advice below and bought the sockets instead. Now for a really dumb question. how do I attach the cable to this socket? The lady sold me a piece of plastic thingy which was meant to push the cable into the gaps behind the socket. Question is, do I have to remove the insulation for the individual strand? I removed 1" of the outer cover to reveal the 8 UTP, but do I have to strip them individually too?

The cables are already in place. I got my reno company to put them. 3 cables one for each bedroom and they all come together in the living room where I have my cable box, modem and router. The 3 in the living room I managed to put the RJ45 plug. Now I'm trying to put the sockets in the bedroom ends.

okey, now that's sounding clearer now. will do it tomorrow. And just one more thing to confirm, I should use the 'A' color code right? cause my RJ45's that'll go in to the router is using the 'A' color code. This is called straight through right?
