[ACFAQ Repo] How to convert .rmvb to .avi (on PowerPC and Intel Macs)

I have previously posted the how-to but it was for PowerPC Mac only.

It turns out it's actually possible to do the .rmvb to .avi conversion on an Intel Mac too with a little known Universal Binaries version of the Real codec.

The tutorial has been updated. http://appleclinic.wordpress.com/200...avi-ppc-intel/

... I can retire my G4 Mac mini leow.

Dan dear, please destroy his crap link. It simply doesn't do what the spammer claims.

dankegut, kindly stop spamming Wondershare software. It's starting to get a little uncomfortable, almost as if you have a commercial interest. All your posts are about promoting those products.

Hi there-

I've tried your new instructions, but I keep getting errors. Perhaps I downloaded the wrong codecs, as the ones you listed on your revised instruction page don't exist. Instead I went to the old codecs directory and downloaded essential-macosx-x86-20060611.zip (as they had the same build date) and installed them instead.

The error I am getting is:

Quote:
/bin/sh: line 1: 43614 Bus error '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mencoder' /Users/squeaky/Desktop/B7-101.rmvb -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:vol=0 -srate 48000 -aid 0 -ovc lavc -sws 0 -lavcopts threads=2:vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1341:keyint=240:vqmin=2:vqmax=15 -ofps 24.000 -vop scale=576:432 -noodml -ffourcc DIVX -o /Users/squeaky/Desktop/B7-101.ff.avi
I'm running 10.5.4 on an intel. Any thoughts?

Yo!

Strange, the page is still there when I check. In any case, here's the direct download link for the codec:

Try the above codec (remember to uninstall the wrong ones first) and see if that resolves the issue.

I've successfully managed to convert a few things, however, I have some rmvb files which are not converting properly. I had a look at the difference between the files that were working and those that were not and found that the ones with faad audio files would not work. I can't seem to find instructions anywhere which show me how to resolve this. I'm an new to Mac, so I don't understand half the instructions posted on the web. Can you help?

ffmpeg progress goes on for 4 seconds. The Process Information is:

Does the rmvb with faad audio plays back in VLC Player? If it doesn't, then my guess is faad is a proprietory format that only Real can decode. You're out of luck.

If you're desperate, you can always use Audio Hijack (or similar) to record the audio, and then re-encode it to the converted soundless avi.

Do I need to convert into avi before MPlayer can play .rmvb file? I have downloaded the rmvb file and tried opening it with MPlayer but I only have audio output. Can't watch video at all. Did I miss a step? Thanks

...so... my question is... how can i add the real codecs ?
I tried adding the folder myself, but ffmpegx still crashes when i try to add rmvb files...

ffmpegX crashes on every single rmvb you have or just a few odd ones? Some rmvb only works on the Real player.

Er... the folder you added… its name is ffmpegx or ffmpegX?

How come you use MPlayer instead of the real Real Player to play your rmvb har?

At the moment, I'm only trying on one specific file... cos it's the only one i have haha
i guess i'll have to get another rmvb to try out too....

the folder i added was ffmpegX....

as i don't have any rmvb to try to re-enc, i guess it could just be my file... damn rmvb...

i'll re-post once i've tried another... the search continues~!

*edit* I've managed to load the rmvb now (it just takes forever to load) and the error i get is this...

Error: dlopen(/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/reallib/drv4.so.6.0, 1): image not found
Error: dlopen(/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/reallib/drvc.bundle/Contents/MacOS/drvc, 1): image not found
Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x30345652.

so does this mean it can't find the reallib files, or is it that the codecs don't work for this particular rmv ?

thanks!

I hope you find a good one to try out your setup; most chinese/taiwanese origins are simple rmvb.

Most if not all the time ffmpegX failed to convert because your source uses proprietory real codec that only Real can decode.
