Biting the Aluminum Apple - New MacBooks!

Having missed out on Apple's earlier launch event over in the States, we popped by the local MacBook launch to find out first hand how Apple's latest aluminum goodies fare and if they meet the hype level:-

This article is no different from the ones published by others in US last week. It doesn't say anything new that we already don't know from reading sites like Gizmodo, etc.

What I'm more interested to read about is the hands-on experience -- weight comparison over the predecessor, how's the new keyboard, how's the new track pad and if we will miss the button, Is the glossy LCD too reflective and glaring, brightness, etc. So of the many basic questions that will push/pull me to upgrade my current notebook.

Hai there,

Thanks for the feedback. There's really not a lot of new information available that you can't get online as we're already one week behind for this launch.

We did briefly mention some of our thoughts for our hands-on experience regarding the illuminated keyboard, the silky feel of the trackpad, though until we get our hands on a proper review unit, we can't really comment on whether we will miss the button.

We did mention in our article that yes, it will probably take some time to get used to the trackpad being a giant button, but again, until we get more test time, we don't think it's fair to comment/judge it so quickly.

As mentioned the LCD is reflective, but the lighting situation at the launch event wasn't really a proper place to comment upon the screen - which again, you'll have to wait for our review.

That said, if you can, do wait for our full review which may help you make a decision on whether to upgrade.

Thanks again for your support and feedback!

Hi MaTriX07, hope you understand that this was based off the launch event that was just arranged yesterday. Yes, a week later than US, but hey they don't get the latest of everything - both continents have their advantages and disadvantages.

That aside, there's only so much we can relate from the launch event where we get our first-hand experience. As my colleague explained, as soon as we get a review unit for our proper testing, we can definitely give you a better account of things.

We would have surely said more if we could - but alas a lot of what you've asked is better mentioned with a proper test rather than assumptions from limited and not the most ideal of places to try the notebook.

That's why this is an event article, not a review

But keep your fingers crossed so we could get a unit soon and demystify the new range better - in the HWZ.com tradition

Cheers!

Just a thought. A very brief hands-on first impression of the new products at the launch event would be interesting from a user point of view. Other than just the static information that has sprouted all over the place last week. Of course a detail review-based article should follow up but i dont think the unit will be available anytime soon. Being late already, i think it will be nice to chock up as much info first than wait to the review article that will be 2 weeks later? My 2 cents Cheers
