Intel X25-M Reloaded: Generation 2 Preview

You know how the Intel X25-M rocked the SSD world last year, but as with all things related to tech, it's time for an update. After months of delays, we finally have the second generation Intel X25-M drives flooding the retail channel with their 34nm flash memory technology. The end result? Better performance for lower costs - sweet indeed.

"leaving ..., system virtual memory and pagefile usage to your standard hard drives"

quote from the article, isnt it better to put virtual memory and page file to the ssd instead?

In terms of speed - yup!

But in terms of giving your SSD less write loads, which also helps prolong its flash cells life span, it's best to use your HDD. So it really depends on one's priorities

Hi vijay... I think you guys should stress test on your G2 more. The firmware needs a bit of time to kick in iirc.

Hi PetPet, thanks for the note.
Though we did stress test it quite a bit, we didn't see the function kick in - yet.

I'll probably give it a another push to see what happens, but Intel's collecting our drive soon so it might be some more time before we assess it.

Question

where in SG can one buy this G2 drive?

my vendor cannot find the item for purchase, and that's quite irritating.
