Blur and clear focus background
Hello!
would like to know what mode, function or setting can give a effect of..
e.g. a clear person in the photo with the background blurred.
has this got to do with lens, 9/12 point focus etc..?
thanks!

1. adequate distance between subject & background
2. wide-open aperture to obtain shallow depth of field.

More in depth reading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field
Another thing to note is that DOF is also dependent on the sensor size, so it's harder to achieve with a PnS and easier with an SLR
