My (rather) Detailed analysis of *affordable* laser printers

I spent roughly 6 hours visiting and revisiting all the printer booths today and managed to put all the data i collected into an excel file.

But due to bad handwriting or bad memory, some info are missing, but anyway here they are:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...=1&output=html

Anyone kind enough to help me update can go here:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...Nang5enc&hl=en

thanks!

My conclusion from the analysis:
Cheap printers have damn high printing costs. So the price is a gimmick.

The printer I bought?
Lexmark E260ND

I was drawn by the free toner. I didn't have time to do more calculations whether the cost per page is actually lower. I just happened to go to Lexmark last and was tired and the free toner seemed great since I'm a home user.

If any of my info is wrong, feel free to let me know and I'll update it.

Oh, btw does anyone knows how to paste the contents inside here so to avoid pple from clicking external links (I know its distracting).

This makes sense for those who are just wanting to print in black and white with Laser printer.
But if you want to print in colors, high toner cost is a fact.

hi thanks for the comment.

my initial idea was that if the colour lasers are cheap enough i might get them, but soon i realise most were out of my budget and those within my budget had huge replacement costs (multiple toners) so I didnt go further and find more info about the colour lasers.

So my list is mainly for people looking for monochrome lasers and considering duplex and network features as well as the cost of maintenance.

Anyone wanna update the form let me know and I'll share with you the access!

wow TS ... great job !

wow .. so u actually spent 6 hrs solid on printers only ...
how many times did you have to revisit the booths on average ?
must be each time u come back ... if promoter recognizes you they must be sensing a deal

but anyway, kudos man !

just one thing abt your data with regards to Brother toner ...
i stand corrected ... afterall i just bot my first Laser printer (Brother HL2140L) today ...
but here goes :
Brother HL2140L supports 2 types of toner ...
a High Yield one up to 2600 pages, &
a Low Yield one up to 1500 pages
the show promoter SAFT has only the High Yield one ...
iirc, $ was ard $77 give or take $2
so that price of $88 is for High Yield toner i think

i did not buy extra toner .. will get a compatible one shld i print up to 1450 pages

sometimes funan cheaper

what! you buy mono laser at $300! is it multi_function?

*only when you use the toner finish will you know the print yield

#haha girls will wonder what toner you are talking about

the bigger the printer, the toner should be more. end of post

In the case of Brother HL 2140L, it is really cheap printer + low printing cost. No gimmick.

(and no, i'm not a promoter or employee of brother)

for the brother hl 2140L, there is some information to be updated. In fact, the printing cost is only 0.027c per sheet, following your calculations but using the updated numbers.

1) It comes with a drum AND low yield toner = 1,500 sheets
2) The "high" yield toner costs $88 = 2,600 sheets
3) However, if you buy a printer you can get 20% off on toner, so in fact the high yield toner costs $70.60

Therefore, $70.60/2,600 = 0.027c per sheet (and this is excluding the fact that it comes with free 'low' yield toner.)

thanks for the compliments.

Hmm, maybe I should make this form public and let you guys do the updating?
I'm kind of busy these days and don't think I'll update it.

I'll update the post with the public edit link. Hope no one messes it up.

@K|muRa^84: I suppose they usually will be big because of the additional mechanism to roll back and change the side?

Hmm, I didn't know about the availability of the high yield toner from brother. The kid at the booth didnt tell me

But I'm happy with my network with auto duplex Lexmark, though its kinda big. It spits out my prints pretty fast! Had a happy sleep after walking so much yesterday...

I'm gonna avoid City Hall the remaining few days.. lol
