The True Navigator - Nokia 6710 Navigator

Have mobile phones evolved beyond its original intent? With the Nokia 6710 Navigator, it does seem so. This navigation-centric device has much to offer with Nokia's latest Ovi Maps and lifetime navigation license on top of its basic cellular functionality. Here's what we thought of the new Navigator after an epic journey:-

Thank you very much for the detailed and very useful review!

I just bought the 6710 from singtel and am a first time (read "virgin") user of a mobile GPS device.

I read with interest about the free services tied to the singtel exclusive Nokia 6710N. Specifically .....

"The Nokia 6710 will come with Walk and Drive Navigation’ (device lifetime license coverage for Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand)"

The singtel news article can be found here:
URL "home.singtel.com/news_centre/news_releases/2009_08_21.asp" ... just add the usual http : // in front of the link given.

Now, on the nokia 6710 default setting for <GPS Positioning method>, three methods have been ENABLED:
1) Assisted GPS - Enabled
2) Integrated GPS - Enabled
3) Network based - Enabled.

I would appreciate if someone can enlighten me and other equally confused users --> does it mean that if I use the GPS with A-GPS positioning activated... there will be no additional data-charges incurred?

If I have assumed wrong and that data-charges will actually be incurred, which positioning method shoud be "disabled" to make sure no additional data charges will be incurred when using the phone's navigation feature.

My same question on data charge applies when we are requesting for the supposed-free real-time traffic info. Does it mean just the traffic info is free but the data-charge for accessing the info is payable... or is it truly free (does not incur data-charge)?

Would appreciate your expert take on this, Vijay.... or any other kind soul who can shed some light on this.

I am sure like many other users, we don't want to be blind-sided by a shocking bill for data-charge at the end of the month

1) with Assisted GPS enabled, there WILL BE data charges incurred.
2) Disable Assisted GPS.
3) Traffic info is free, but data is chargable.

Yup, Kenny's right.

You will incur data charges - unless otherwise assisted GPS mode is disabled. But that will make it slower.
