HBO HD - Oct. 1

HBO HD coming soon this Fri, Oct 1 on Ch 601. Not sure if all movies are true HD and half of them upconverted.....hope other broadcasters like STAR MOVIES, Sci-Fi etc. follows suit!

HBO in high definition launches on StarHub HBO is the first movie channel to broadcast in high definition in Singapore Singapore, 29 September 2009

Starting 1 October 2009, HBO in high definition (HD) will launch on StarHub TV. Viewers in Singapore will have the opportunity to enjoy a dedicated movie channel in HD. HBO will be available in high definition* to StarHub’s HBO PAK subscribers in Singapore via StarHub TV Channel 602. The launch of HBO in HD will mark HBO, the leader in home entertainment, as the first regional movie channel to broadcast in HD in Asia.

Currently, all StarHub TV subscribers of the HBO PAK under the Movies Add-On tier will get to enjoy HBO’s commercial-free line up of Hollywood blockbusters and HBO Original programmes and series in HD*, with no additional cost. To access HBO in HD, viewers will also need to have StarHub’s HubStation HD or HD set-top box.

“At the forefront of technology, HBO is proud to be the first regional movie channel to broadcast in high definition in Asia,” says Jonathan Spink, CEO of HBO Asia. “With HBO in high definition, StarHub TV subscribers can now enjoy a complete cinematic experience – watching the latest and biggest Hollywood blockbusters and award-winning HBO Original programmes with better clarity, sharper pictures in wide-screen format and superior sound enhancement from the comfort of their own home.”

StarHub is increasingly expanding its offerings of full quality HD channels. With the addition of HBO in HD, StarHub will offer a total of seven HD channels. StarHub’s HD channels span across a wide genre and include HD5 (Ch 300), National Geographic Channel HD (Ch 301), Discovery HD (Ch 302), History HD (Ch 303), Sports HD (Ch 304) and All Sports Network HD (Ch 305) and now, HBO in HD (Ch 602).

“As the leading pay TV operator in Singapore, StarHub strives not only to deliver entertaining content to our viewers, but also quality and enhanced TV viewing experience. Now with HBO in high definition, StarHub TV’s HBO PAK subscribers can enjoy a true cinematic experience in their home environment. HBO has been a longtime close partner and we are glad to take this collaboration one step further to give even more benefits to viewers in Singapore,” says Ms Ong Bee Lian, StarHub’s Vice President of Home Solutions.

Existing HBO subscribers using StarHub’s HubStation HD or HD set-top box can also enjoy HBO in HD by upgrading to HBO PAK for an additional $4.28 (with GST) per month. To upgrade, existing HBO subscribers with the two-way enabled HubStation HD can easily click on the Instant Buy feature on their remote controls.

New customers can add HBO PAK for a monthly subscription of $17.12 (with GST) upon subscription to at least three Basic Groups. For the month of October, StarHub will offer existing HBO subscribers with free upgrades to HBO PAK for the first three months. For more details, viewers can visit www.starhub.com/tv.

HBO in high definition will also be available to subscribers in Hong Kong and the Philippines with more countries across the region following soon after. HBO in high definition will be programmed and packaged in English out of Singapore together with closed-captioned subtitling.

Just got the HBO HD and very disappointed..apparently most of the shows are in SD (identical to SD HBO)!! I subscribe the whole HBO pak at S$17 just for the so call HBO HD channel!! Yet, feeling cheated!

Actually, how many shows are broadcast in HD in a month under ch 602?!! These few days i have not seen any whenever i switch over to ch 602.

Even those movies like Mummy, Mummy Returns which are already on on HD format on blurays are all in SD!! They looked worst than channel 5 HD!

What is Starhub trying to do by selling ch 602 as a HD channel yet cheating their customers...I think they have lost enough customers by loosing their BPL. Maybe they will loose more..

what's the use of having paid movie channel like HBO when you cant enjoy movie at its full uncensored version? Watching Robocop at HBO is like watching "The Happy Adventures of Robocop".

Expensive PG13 versions of blockbusters.

I'd rather have my DVDs and Blurays any day.

As for Starhub losing subscribers, well they deserved it.

Well, quite true...considering our MDA Board of Film Censors still like to treat us like some small children eventhough violet can be seen everywhere on the internet, news, etc.

I had my bluray collections for all my favourite movies. But.. i just thot of subscribing to HBO HD for those movies which i miss it in the cinemas & yet not buying them on BD for keeping... Can't simply buy every BD movie to watch... HBO HD on surface seems like a cheaper alternative to BD rental...

But if on 10%-20% of the programme on HD, then i think i'm gonna cancel it.

Can any bros who already have the ch 602 confirmed it? How many HD shows they broadcast in a month?..
