think i found the reason for my 100% cpu usage

I recently upgraded my mainboard and I had this problem of my cpu always having 90-100% cpu usage even when seemingly doing nothing. I did a fresh install of xp sp3, brand new hard disk, no programs installed, just the basic drivers for hardware, and this problem was always there. Installed some games that worked on my previous less powerful setup, and the audio was always stuttering.

Yesterday I tried disabling the onboard realtek HD sound driver on the mainboard, and today my PC performance is back to normal. usage is always less than 50% now except when I'm playing games. I'm now using my old SB audigy and there's no lag or stuttering.

So what I'm saying is, I think the realtek drivers have a problem.

TO all those of you having high cpu usage too, what is your hardware setup like? Do you have the latest realtek drivers?

yep, that's why i think it's a driver issue. been running for a day now, playing games, doing intensive stuff, and cpu usage now hovers around 2-10% when i'm off the keyboard. Before i disabled the driver it was always 90-100% even when i closed all apps and even the spyware/adware monitors.

That's way too high in terms of CPU usage. Try playing around with different drivers from Realtek. If the newer ones are giving you problems, try rolling back to older ones.

There is a minimum processor state under power options in control panel. Sometime setting that at 100% will keep ur processor running at 100%.
