I'm 28 this year and thinking of furthering my studies. When i was young, i didn't put in much effort and only have 2 GCE O Level passes (English & Accounts). My N level results were not bad though.
Anyway, after that, i went on to get a NTC2 in Building Drafting and after NS, got a diploma from SHATEC.
Right now, I'm in the telecommunications industry and thinking of studying something related to this line.
I don't intend to retake my O levels. So i probably have to take the long way. Go through NITEC then to Diploma and on to Degree.
I'm thinking of studying something related to Electronics, Electrical or Communications.
Can anyone advice me on my route. I'm not so interested in private institutions. Thanks in advance.
since you not interested private or that means distance learning, prepare least 60k (this inclusive of a very scrimpy livelihood when low or no income, over 3 yrs, average nearby study institution, non elite) or no talk
dont care your 60k beg borrow steal or scholarhsip, or how you going to make back that 60k since you already this old (remember to add 10k for every year you wait after 28, 15k if you planning marriage, 20k if children) thats your problem.
* <<< Remember this asterisk, will come back to this
LEAST 20k a yr for non cpf supported study at nearby nonlocal school (seriously suspect if you should even bother apply local with your background)
if you are studying Full Time overseas, means you be quite tight for working part time (some places dont allow), so that 20k also have to be inclusive of livelihood and study fees. dont try to be funny and suggest study part time overseas, that will just double your pain.
now that you mention you are father with housing, you kanna quadraple whammy, you cant work but yet have to support 4 legs, your study, your own mouth, your baby(s??) mouth, your rooftop mouth. by this i assuming your other half and your (healthy) parents NOT depending entirely on you.
you are 28, after study you should be around 30-31. thats almost quite late to start as fresh grad, you be competing against mid20s. you find it hard to find prospective employment, then after that you find it even harder to promote up becos you are seen as a threat to junior and mid mgmt, after all that you still risk a doldrum market in the next few yrs
coming back to the asterisk *, the fact that you CANT figure out the 60k and what i briefly mentioned in the first place and needed a breakdown to guide your thinking along, i dont think you are ready to return to books. i strongly suggest you take up some cert or diploma to test (appraise) yourself if you THINK you can perform at your peak (thats not even saying you WILL)
UNLESS you have some secret sponsor or you struck lottery, then god bless you
One thing, private learning exists for a reason, they lie to their students as much as the students lie to themselves

Did you get my initial question wrong? I did say i'm not going through private institutions yeah? Quitting my job and going oversees will most probably mean going the private institution way.
Seriously hope you can post more constructive comments then to waste your time talking about money, striking lottery and thinking $$ is the answer to all your question. Thanks
You want to take up part time NP DipTech which is a 3 years course?
Try take Electrical instead of Electronics because with Electrical Cert, you mostly can do Electronics job but with a Electronics Cert, you mostly can never do a Electronics job.
Just to add on, the NP Dip awarded to full time is different from part time.
With a NP DipTech, you cannot apply for NUS full time BEng but you can apply for part time NUS BTech.
With a NP DipTech, you must start with 1st year full time NTU BEng while a full time NP DipEng, you can start wth direct 2nd year full time NTU BEng. That mean you may not get any extemped modules for part time NTU BEng if you are using NP DipTech to enter.
