A review of an XGP-equipped laptop is never complete without testing with a discrete GFX card.

Oops, looks like a classic case of Excel update typos; we'll rectify that as soon as we get back to work on Monday. The results are all correct, just that the labelling of the last notebook is the Acer Aspire One netbook. We'll update here again once ammended.

Easier said than done

First thing's first. XGP has existed since two years back but its adoption rate is extremely low. Availability of such external modules is rarer still. We would have loved to have tried them too.

Besides the fact that it's just not available yet, what do you think are the chances are of its availability and affordability given that it's such a niche item? As much as any of us enthusiasts would love to have such an option and that the XGP idea and implementation in theory sounds swell, it's not something to peg hopes upon. If it's not yet picked up since a couple of years ago and still hasn't, it's unlikely to see any momentum for another year at least. You need more notebooks to adopt such a port even before there's a market viability in even selling those XGP modules.

Well, here's hoping that those external modules do see light and we certainly would look forward to trying them even if it's just available as a review sample and not yet for commercial availability.
