RE: NVME SSD undetectable

Initially I had thought that my laptop dead and I went to purchase an enclosure to retrieve my data before sourcing for repairer.
However after I remove my nvme, the laptop is able to on just without disk OS.

The new problem is that the nvme in the enclosure is unable to show any drive/data in my computer.
Under Computer Management, it’s showing Disk 01, unknown, not initialization and keeps blinking on and off.. Capacity is 0 under properties.

Current using Adata XPG SX8200 2TB, any chances to retrieve my data inside?

Hmm hijack thread abit. Is Samsung NVMEs much better reliability than Adata's? Or there's no much difference

I don't think there is enough info although Samsung does generally have a good reputation as to reliability.

Not a big deal anyway so long as you remember to backup backup backup. :s13:

of course Samsung are known for their reliability but when it comes to electronics... nothing is 100%. If data is of upmost importance to you then its a no brainer to get the Pro version for 10 years warranty and of course always backup your data.

is either ur ssd or enclosure problem
there is nothing much to it

try another enclosure that is working and if doesnt work on ur ssd, ur ssd is faulty

Make sure the enclosure you bought support NVMe and not just SSD. M.2 card has 2 format and they looks alike.

I spent a day and a half troubleshooting something very similar. I bought a flagship build and the moment I installed the NVMe (Aorus NVMe PCIe 4.0 with a big heat sink on it!) the motherboard would not boot - best of all no error code! Take it out and everything worked perfectly. Confused by this I was lucky that I setup the motherboard flat and did not screw the NVMe to the motherboard and it worked!

Dug around online to see everyone screwing the NVMe directly to the board the same as I was. So I tried to screw it down again and same problem.

Looked through the motherboard manual and it did not show any clear pictures of how to mount and accidentally came across some tiny screws in my motherboard box. Next thought I had was that the screw head may have been too big and was shorting out something. Also was not the case. Then I noticed in my motherboard box there was a raised screw that a smaller screw that screws into it. This is basically a spacer between the motherboard and NVMe. Used this and it worked!

So what I found was that when I was screwing the NVMe to the motherboard it was applying pressure to bend it slightly and that caused it to not work!

Hope this helps others as I was on the verge of heading back to Sim Lim and tell them this expensive NVMe is BS and didn’t work :s22:

haha yes. there's a spacer screw beneath the ssd. the half hole on the ssd rest on the spacer screw.

this one sounds like boot priority. Press f12 and select your boot drive. if it works, restart, go to bios and adjust the boot priority.

Mine had a screw that acts as a spacer which needs to be screwed in first followed by another smaller hole screw to the spacer! My frustration was that the stupid motherboard manual did not mention this and I only came to know by accident!

almost 2 days of frustration and was going to send the SSD back.

These are the screws I got with my Aorus Xtreme board

These are them installed

Hope this helps many people :)
