There's a new OTA (11.8.4.6) for KitKat out. I've just flashed it, and it seems to be running normally, with the following notes:
- Rooting using Towelroot is still possible (again, rooting is dangerous, I'm not recommending it, etc.)
- Polaris Office 5 is now bundled (for the people who were missing it - myself included)
- The screen tearing I observed on the 11.8.3.3 firmware appears to have been addressed here; smooth scrolling overall.
That begs another question that I never get any answer from Asus or anywhere from the net.
Previously I was on 4.1.1 on an encrypted Padfone2, can I upgrade to 4.4.2 without decrypting the phone first? No answer.
Not taking the risk, I backed up everything, decrypted the phone by factory reset. Manually flashed to 4.4.2. Then encrypted again to install my company's secured email client. Worked.
Now, I am on 4.4.2 build 11.8.3.3 on an encrypted Padfone2, can I upgrade to 4.4.2 build 11.8.4.6 using the OTA method? Given the phone detected the OTA firmware & prompting me to upgrade?
If I just click upgrade while the phone is encrypted, will it brick the phone?
Sigh... why no one knows this answer?
