Prepaid SIM cards in Thailand

Hi, Anyone knows which telco in Thailand sells prepaid SIM cards that allows data surfing?
How to activate it?

In China, China Unicom allows roaming when you call in to activate..
Is there similar service from Thai telco?

Thanks.

i went to the 7-Eleven and purchase a prepaid card with bundle @ $199 baht. and activate the data by topping up $49 baht per day for unlimited usage It is called Happy Sim. I purchase and paid and ask the 7-Eleven staff to help to activate. Hope this helps.

AIS 1-2-Call sim card can be bought at the counters in airport.

got 199baht and 399baht package.

if want to activate data plan, press *138*0349#

you will receive an sms to state your data plan starts now for 24hrs. If after 24hrs you never reactivate again, you will incur expensive data rates.

Example activate at 9pm, it will end next day 9pm. So if next day 9.05pm you use data or mails are pushed in, your credits start going down.
This data plan service is 49baht per day.

If want to call back singapore is 00500 then add in singapore number with international prefix
Example 0050065XXXXXXXX

To check credit balance is *121#

blackberry users who want to use BIS service, pls ask the counter staff for assistance.

Note that between AIS(1-2 Call), Dtac(Happy) and True, only True has 3G coverage, although limited coverage, but most tourist place shld be able to get 3G.
http://truemove.com/en/prepay-hispeed-net-sim.htm refer to the site for the coverage area as well.

Just a quick question, what does $199 baht bundle have inside? and in bkk, is it necessary to top up $49 baht per day for unlimited usage? if yes where to top up?

1) d 49b plan is for 12call (prepaid card of AIS telco)
2) dis is a time-based plan where 1 gets unlimited data usage 4 24hrs starting fr d time d service is activated.

if u r not using data anymore after 24hrs lapsed, of cos u need not top up anymore. but rem 2 switch off ur mobile data connection after dat. there is no such thing as free meal cos u will b charged according 2 d prevailing data rate until all ur sim card credit runs out.

2 top up juz use d same code as mentioned above & dis will last u another 24hrs. of cos u need 2 ensure dat u ve sufficient credits in ur sim card b4 u can perform d code.

there r probably 1000 ways 2 replenish ur sim credits. most tourists get it done over d counter of convenient stores like 7-11, familymart & etc. juz ask 4 '12call top up card'. the common denominations r 100b & 300b.

Edited: nowadays d refill card method is kinda passe. tell d cashier u need '12call top up 100/300 baht'. chances r they will give u a small white slip with printed 16digits refill code/pin. to refill -> key in *120*refill pin# & send. ur credits & sim expiry date will b updated accordingly on d spot.

The EDGE network in Thailand is faster than the 3G experienced in Singapore.

Don't look at the advertised speeds. But look at real life usage.
Singapore almost everyone with data plan whack on 3G, making it slow and congested. Thailand bangkok not many people using unlimited.

Happy sim has weak data network. Get true or ais sim better. Flat rate.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I think I am going to get this. But again, True is better or 12call is better?
