All these terms quite standard (so to me they are acceptable), other than item 6. I know Sompo does not have this condition.

On the same topic, some insurers provide coverage for Damage to Personal items only due to "theft, robbery or violence" reasons & dont cover accidental damage. I will also usually not buy if there is such clause for my trip.

Hey guys just going to copy&paste what i wrote in the ACE insurance thread hoping no one else gets scammed like I did.

Going to post my 2cents about ACE here

This is with regards to Travel insurance, I'm not aware if they sell other types of insurance but after that absolutely horrific experience I am never insuring with them again. My flight from Istanbul to Riyadh to Changi was delayed multiple times at Riyadh (mechanical fault) , and I arrived back in Sg about 20 hours behind schedule. Immediately wanted to claim back from ACE who stated that any travel delays of >8hours will be able to claim starting from 100$.

My friend claimed first, and ACE gave him a payout of 100$ there, no problem. Thereafter, ACE rejected all claim payments from me and my other friends because "the delayed flight did not fly out from Changi Airport" Wtf? **** you. It was never written in the terms and conditions and what kind of condition is that the flight must originate from Changi? Does this mean I have to buy insurance from every country I visit? Total BS, had a lot of back and forth with their agents which did not result in any payment but instead a lot of frustration. When I asked how my friend was allowed to claim, they cited an oversight on their part
Just a blatant excuse to not allow us to claim. **** this company

TL;DR - Do not buy from ACE

If ACE still doesn't want to payout, claim from the airline, show them proof that your insurer doesn't want to pay. Might work.

I got something damaged from a flight last year, travel insurer doesn't want to pay, I claimed from SQ, they paid me instead. :s22:

sometime last year, SQ made the policy not to compensate for "damage to luggage handles, wheels & scratches" bcos these r in normal course of baggage handling & subject to wear & tear (something to that effect)

my wheels were damaged flying into HK, made report there & told to contact SQ when returning to SG, only to be shown the notice at the baggage claim office in SG.

-10 SQ

Any suggestion/recommendation of travel insurance for a year for backpackers? Doing budget trip so not much issue with flight delay and stuff.
Most likely for robbery/thief/medical purposes. Asia and Europe.

Cheers

you probably need a Annual Plan, instead of a single trip plan bcos of its duration.

go to GoBear website to research & look at the benefit comparisons

Sompo, MSIG, AIG, NTUC, AXA are all safe choices

used gobear to search for annual travel insurance and found this.. 180 per year for worldwide. The catch is it have excess of 50USD for claim.

I found excess reasonable because i buy travel insurance for protection against big unfortunate event. (not petty illness or scratches found on luggage....)

anyone bought can share their experience..

use gobear.com.sg and found out about Etiqa Insurance. It's alot cheaper than MSIG (I normally get from them).

Anyone deal with Etiqa before? how was it? I did claim with MSIG before and not much problem just that claim seems to take slightly longer lately.

prepare to wait for Etiqa as well is all I can say

auto email says someone will be in touch in 3 days, but no one reverted

i think they dont have many Claims Specialist here so short handed

but once someone has reviewed, they were quite prompt in their response

from my emails, it took 6 weeks for someone to contact me. after that, matter resolved in next 2 days

but do they require alot of documents or it is very difficult to do claim from them? I don't mind the wait coz MSIG claim is rather easy.
