Can anyone recommend some good japanese books for self-study?
Don't have the money to go for actual class.

Hi chongjasmine,

Have you attended any Japanese lessons before of any form? if yes, I would recommend:

if not, I would strongly recommend you to save up money for Japanese classes.

I haven come across a good website for learning Keigo and Business Japanese.

For drama, you can try looking at historical dramas (samurai era type but many dialogue are not applicable in today context) or office/service related dramas.

I see, thanks for the information, I guess I'll have to use some translator app then :)

Unless you are going to very rural areas, you should generally be fine without knowing Japanese. First time I went to Japan I only knew like 3 phrases out of which 1/3 was scolding people hahah! I survived.

My friend can't speak Japanese and can't guess what people mean, and she also survived.

I have 0 knowledge of japanese. Tried to learn myself but can't seem to memorize the words nor really know how to start. Bought the nihongo textbooks myself but it doesn't seems to work.
I'm thinking of either going Bunka or Ikoma or any others you guys recommend? i stay in the west, currently just started working at city hall. Now working in Jap bank, super add on to my interest. Though no idea if it will be used in the future hahaha :s13::s22::s12:

Any thoughts?
