im not sure what is excess... but the rental company ask me to pay them 10000 for damaging of car

You rented a car without knowing what is excess?? Ask them to show you the repair cost. If the repair is 2k you pay only 2k. You will be paying 10k only if the repair is above 10k.

Where got 10k excess one ? If is true, then the shop confirm chop carrot head.
You go JB repair also need not so expensive.
$10k can buy you a 2nd hand car left with 1 year COE.
Share the contract here.
Excess is usally 5-10k for drivers with less than 2 year experience unless go for whizzcar i think is only 1-2k.

if van knocked into you, how come you are e one liability for damages? if you are liable for 10k xs means you knocked into van, original post abit misleading

TS say he got hit when moving out from minor road to major road.. the van on the major road got right of way leh.. car on minor road moving out shd be at fault..

oh if thats e case then no choice liao..very hard to dispute

if ts really didnt check e traffic before moving out then 10k xs is bobian, based on the damages of 2 vehicles $10K excess wont be able to cover repair costs for both sides, havent even factor in medical, loss of use, legal fees from claimant

contract also states 10k excess, guess should just pay up. Unless lorry also at fault and can claim 50:50

Get them to show u the bill of the repairs for both the van and the car, if bill comes up to below $10k just pay up but judging from the extensive damage, highly unlikely.

Also, SGT car plate is likely a COE renewed car, should have been scrapped by now. If parf value is low, see if you can negotiate to pay them parf then they just redeem the remaining COE. However, u still have the repair bill of the van to consider.

COE renewed car, if scraped, the rental co gets back remaining COE value. There's no need for insurance. The 10K likely is for the Van's claims.

Talk to the rental company objectively, see how to resolve. If die die want to die bankrupt, company also don't stand to gain.
See can workout something, maybe scrap car would be cheaper and work out a repayment plan or what

i thought rule of thumb is to wait for car in major road to stop before the yellow box before driver from minor road check clear and turn in? thats usually how most ppl drive..the stop sign is there for a reason

i dont see any way out of this as eveything is on paper..unless ts declares bankrupt for $10k??

You already signed in black and white that you got to pay $10,000 in the event of an accident, so what's the point of arguing or whether they scrap the car or not? You can't get away scot free. Don't wanna pay? Prepare to get sued because you signed a contract.

From what i see so far, the accident is your fault because you were turning from minor to major road and failed to see an oncoming van.

So not only do you have to pay the damages of the rental car, but also the van.

Both side damages look bad.
