Jz curious how may ppl is/are suffer insomnia?

I'm age 53 jz started insomnia last week, every night can't fall asleep, my eye close and wait for the sun to raise.

I have seen Chinese medicine, family clinic and polyclinic, but they gave me pill to release my body stress but I don't think I have due to retired in couple year ago. They don't give sleeping pill now.

Polyclinic referrals me to SGH sleep doctor specialize but SGH rejected and refused to make appointment, said not necessary but referral me to Khoo Tech Huat Hospital to see psychologist in the next 7-10 days.

Problem is, I can't sleep every night, not even fall asleep 1-2 hrs, can I wait such a long time?

How to CURE???

You can try getting some sunshine every morning once you wake up. It will help reset your internal body clock.

Also avoid bright lighting, as well as blue light emitting from screens of laptops, and mobile phones when you are close to your sleeping time.

Exercise will also help your brain release neurotransmitters such as endorphins and dopamine, They aid in alleviating stress, and can help you to feel more positive.

Once you see a psychiatrist, in most cases, you may be given antidepressants which are potent drugs and may complicate your insomnia to "depression".

suggest:
1) avoid coffee and tea, especially after noon.
2) take chamomile tea in the evening
3) get busy, go for a walk, and make yourself really tired
4) try the above for a week and if you still cannot sleep, you can take Melatonin. start with 0.5mg (sublingual, place below your tongue) 1 hour before sleep time and dim the room, no TV, phone, PC.... Order melatonin from iherb, more choices and cheaper too. In Sg, it's expensive and most at 3mg which is too strong.
5) take Magnesium (can order from iherb), this helps too.

Get well! :)

Jz went to see Psychiatry at Khoo Teck Puat this morning, doctor prescribed:

1. Melatonin 3MG per tab
2. Mirtazapine Orodispersible - 15 MG per tab but take half tab

After Taken medicine at 11pm, I felt dizzy and head like spin spin, very sleepy and quickly went sleep at 11.40pm, ended up whole night suffered dizzy but can't sleep at all. Dragging until 6.30am then fallen asleep till 11am. Sleep again 3.30pm to 5pm, after that feeling ok.

Is this normal ?

Any one have same experience?

Hi,

There are many ways to counter insomnia. If you decide to take the antidepressants, do it very carefully. I would suggest you do it the natural way rather than taking these drugs which may be long term and has many side effects.

One of my family members was very desperate when he could not sleep for weeks. He then took the psychiatrists advice and tried many type of drugs antidepressants, mood disorder, sleeping pills, tranquilizers and even psychotic ones. His condition worsened from simply insomnia to "depression"and was unable to work/socialise for about 3 years. Some even made him feel suicidal. These drugs merely sedate him and he was "sleeping" for about 15 hours a day but still did not feel alright as these are not natural sleep after all.

At the end of 2 years, he gave up on the drs' advice and sought advice from this forum http://survivingantidepressants.org/ and after a year of closely following up with the forum moderators, he is now almost back to his normal form. He is also back to work. This forum saved his life!

Melatonin at 3mg is actually quite a high dose as our body produces much less than this amount. Try with a smaller dose eg 0.5mg, monitor and slowly increase after every 3-5 days. Besides this, you also need to be very disciplined, quit all coffee/caffeine related produce/drinks, go outdoor exercise. For me, I personally find drinking Chamomile tea in the evening helps me to sleep better.

There are a lot of helpful information here, so do check it up: http://survivingantidepressants.org/

I've been suffering from insomnia (now considered chronic insomnia) for almost a month already.. I usually get about 3-5 hours of sleep every 2-4 days..

while type this post, I've been awake for about 36 hours or so already..

I'm currently prescription with vortioxetine 15mg in the morning. 15mg mirtazapine at night.. but mirtazapine now only makes me hungry at night.. doesn't make me sleep.. so I've also currently prescribed with hydroxyzine 50mg, lorazepam 1mg and diazepam 10mg...

usually after taking the mirtazapine + hydroxyzine + diazepam I will unknowingly KO in around 1 hour. I mentioned unknowingly because there was once after I took those meds.. I went to toilet to pangsai.. and KO on the toilet bowl. when I woke up it was 3.5hours later.
