Hi everyone,

Been out of touch with the pc scene for the longest time. Looking to build a cheap gaming rig (~1.2k including monitor).

Open to all suggestions please.

Thanks in advance!

Very bad time to look for a budget rig. You're in urgent need of a rig now?

1.2K with monitor doiable.
JUst depends on what you want to play

Even PUBG @ 1.2K with monitor is not an issue in such times.

when will the price possibly drops?
It will not drop
The next round, price will increase
Miners whack cards = No stock again due to pent up demand and backlog, which is measured in significant numbers, not just few / several )

There is actually NO price increase at the moment, just a shift to premium brands

To put it bluntly
1060 will be out of stock for a while
Zotac Galax Palit cheapo brands $369 6gb versions. can kiss goodbye
Asus $439 459 479 6gb versions is either start saying sayonara, or can kiss goodbye already
Gigabyte $500+ versions still around coz people not willing to pay

Once restock, short time span before it disappears again.

Same goes for 1070 series and 1070TI

So its better to just get what you can accept if you want it now.
Talk to your builder / shop

If you want 1060 6gb which is the sweet spot, the new price is around 500ish.
1060 3gb is around $400 or high $300s

Either jump high to 1080 level or duck down to 1050 / 1050ti level or older used gfx

Most important if you want the system NOW, is to get the components now.
Don't wait for " coming soon" coz no one can predict price

If prices increase, all you get is a " Sorry Bro, No stock or stock never arrive ", but card is safely in builder's hand waiting to be sold @ higher price. haha

An analogy i want to point out is that this is akin to the COE @ $5000 era
Back then Car COEs were like 5k a piece, which was uber low.
HAd a friend who want to buy a car but wanted to wait for prices to drop, because he felt that 5k coe was still expensive. He wanted it FREE
Prices steadlly increased from 5, 6,7,8,10 and up
At 15k which was the usual price, he still did not want to get coz he felt that prices will go down.
It went all the way from 15 to 60k -80k+
He ended up buying a used car of 7yrs old at a price higher than the price of a new car during whe he test drove the car.

So the point is
1. Either wait it out for when cards become readily available ( coz no one, even suppliers can give you an ETA )
2. Start gaming right away by getting the cards at prices you can accept, rather than waiting to get cards at the lowest price.
coz there are others in the same situation.

The irony is that, at the moment, you are not losing out but are instead moving from cheapo brands to more expensive brands. ;)
