not really means root from the start, but its unlock the bootloader so u can do rooting.

I applied to unlock my mi6, got the reply within a few hours but didn't attempt to unlock only couple of weeks later. When tried to associate device under Developers option > Mi unlock status, it keeps giving me a "86006: 参数组合非法" error... I've decided to give up unlocking my Mi6 since it's update to 9.2.2 few days ago.

to root you will need to unlock your bootloader. You apply to unlock bootloader not rooting.
