I used 4x 2TB Toshiba HDD since Sep 2014 until I sold them late last year. No issue, bought another 4 units of same model for current DS418.

Thank you for your feedbacks.

How about Seagate Ironwolf 4TB NAS ? Any issue with Synology NAS ?

Need some advice.

Have a DS916+ with 4 drives loaded. Need more space.

Would I be better off with a DS918+ with 4 drives or a 2nd hand DX513 with 5 drives?

The latter will attach to the DS916+.

are you comfortable with the DS916+ performance?
if yes, get the 2nd hand DX513 (Cheaper than getting a DS918+)
why not just upgrade the drive to higher capacity?

Thanks for the advice.

Was considering upgrading the current drivers, but I'll need to go to 6TB or higher, which are rather expensive.

Currently running on 4 x 3TB. Quite satisfied with the DS916+ performance.

Will recommend dx513 instead than to buy a new nas too

Easier to manage and cheaper as well.

WOW, that's cheap ! Is Toshiba reliable ? I never have Toshiba HD at home.
I began slowly replacing my WD Green 3tb when Synology starts detecting errors for the last 2 years. So far I've replace 7 toshiba 3tb drives. The WDs ran for 5 years 24x7 and 3 different Synology NAS.

During the replacements I once bought a 3tb WD blue but it fail within 6 months. RMAed and keep it as spare. Bought Toshiba drives since then.

1 toshiba failed so far but most probably my fault, accidentally knock power cable off.Yet to RMA as I'm still looking for the receipt.

When it comes to hdd brand, it's always a hit and miss. Even seagate iron wolf can fail sooner than MTBF due to many factors.

But I personally stay away from Seagate. Too many times fail or errors within warranty period. Been buying drives since brand like Maxtor is around.

Thanks.

I am currently on 4 x 3TB hdd on the DS916+.

If I decide on the DX513, will I need to get the same sized hdd as what's in my 916 or can I use higher capacity drives?

You can go for same, lower or higher doesnt matter.

You can also have 2, 100 or combine the volume as 1 big volume

It is flexible

I can’t.

Where to download the exFat access? What format will it work without any download?
Why you connect it, you should be able to see it via file station. No?

And for exfat you probably need.. to install exFat access?
