My first time looking at nas as I was using iCloud storage. I've been reading up a bit, seems like it's safer to also include a back up solution for the NAS. Where do people usually back up their bad to?

If I go for budget NAS, 4 bay with let's say 2Tb drives x 4, and wanna do an on-site back up, do I still need another 8tb of on-site storage to back it up? And also to buy a UPS to at least perform graceful shutdown. And how much would it cost to set it all up approximately? Sorry for troubling anyone that can help me.
You may want to consider a 2-bay basic NAS. With this setup, the cost will be lower with the 2 HDDs.

Alternatively, if you need a 4-bay NAS for your needs, populate it with 2 HDDs first, then expand when your budget allows.

I'm using a DS716+II with a used external HDD as backup. The external HDD used as backup to the NAS needn't to be a same capacity as your NAS. In my case, I don't use a UPS for my need.
