On the contrary, the light is used quite often, but as indicator to the player rather than as input to the console. Many games light up in different colors when playing local mp, like in party games, the color corresponding to the color representing the player in the game. Some games also use the color to indicate various statuses, like The Crew will have it flashing red when your car is engaged in police chase. The light is used frequently but the original light bar has a problem - the player cannot easily see it. That's why with the new design of the controller, they left one line on top of the touchpad for the light to shine through. It just that the other function of being an input is basically just used in VR, cos rarely is there any non-VR game using the camera anyway.
I paste decal over it cause I hate lights.
