I did spent 4 years in ITE. I can make friends easily in ITE but poly is hard. I just know a few friends in poly but different class. But I still contact him.

In poly, you need to study in group and make sure you can understand or email or call the lecturer for help.

Currently, I'm Year 2 in SP. Still got 1 more to graduate.

I recently graduated from Higher Nitec Year 2.
Was from Nitec for the previous years and jumped on to that by skipping 1 year.

Now pursuing in the Technical Engineer Diploma course . First year. total i will be studying about 5 years in ITE when i graduate. The course itself is 2 years.

Higher Nitec is not so difficult, just need to work harder to go poly. But i did not go to poly despite my good scores because i prefer Technical and Supervisory-Combined Academic Areas than a generalized level. Good thing is the course is pure equivalent to the one in polytechnics.

thanks for sharing. I spent 4 years in ITE as well, 1st week of poly just passed but I can sorta agree with the difficulty of making friends in poly. still early but idk if it's cause of my age, feel a bit out of touch, my 2 years in hnitec I instantly clicked with my classmates :s11:

Just to share that for Technical Engineer Diploma (TED), the only local university you can only go to is NUS part time for Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Programmes [which is different from full time Bachelor of Engineering (BEng)] as what ITE claim. However I have problem finding TED admission information in NUS website for BTech.

So study full time TED do lose out to full time Polytechnic Diploma for entering to local universities.

Gotten some info from the two threads below. If those who studied this TED course wants to pursue a university degree in future, there are few options apart from just NUS btech. Example could be TUM (German Uni) and also Aust Uni. If want to migrate or live oversea, can also consider those options too. Need not stick to just NUS btech only.

Dont waste time doing full time studies at degree. not worth it.
their requirement is you need to have a polytechnic diploma or its EQUIVALENT,
with 2 years of working experience. Having a skill future ( i think) will be advantageous.

To be technical enough... the graduates from TED has went to SIM to further their part time studies, if other school, case by case basis by doing an entrance exam as they recognise this diploma.

I might try to do on the other countries too. worth doing so.

I have read these 2 threads.

1) Nickzz claim that 'also apply for german uni cos got two certs, one from MOE local and other one from German MOE'. To be more detail is one is awarded from ITE while another one is from Baden-Wuittembreg (Only represent a state MOE in Germany and not the whole Germany). Did not read that he is going to apply to that TUM Asia or even get into the university. TUM Asia also did not state that they recognized TED.

2) Why should I waste 2.5 years studying TED in ITE when I can just study Diploma from private school and went overseas for university studies?

1. the certificate to pursue for germany is only given if you have 1.5 years of experience in the industry. The transcript and diploma in english version is given for completion and pass of modules. it was stated unclearly.

2. 2.5years is for culinary arts. ( Inclusive of internship.)
2 years is all engineering course.

I don't understand what you are trying to express.

For part time NUS BTech course, they needs applicants to have at least 2 years of full-time work experience apart from polytechnic diploma. For full time NUS BEng, they only needs applicants to have good GPA results from polytechnic diploma and do not needs any year of full-time work experience.

What is 'skill future'? Do you mean Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ)?

TED only have 3 courses namely Culinary Arts, Automotive Engineering and Machine Technology but SIM GE do not have any relevant courses. I don't think TED is recognize by SUSS (Used to known as UniSIM). So what courses did TED graduates take up in 'SIM'?

For private schools, most likely you can enter as long as you have money. So TED don't really play an important part for entering distance learning degree courses in private schools.

Cause ITE partnership with Institut Paul Bocuse (French culinary school) for Culinary Arts and Carl Benz Schule in Gaggenau, Germany [but certificate awarded by Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports (MEYS), Baden-Wϋrttemberg, Germany] for Automotive Engineering and Machine Technology.

From my understanding for TED, internship (for experience) is a MUST before you can graduate with certificate from ITE. So in a way, it is like you pass internship mean 2 certificate and if you fail mean no certificate at all.

If you check properly they have this word 'or its equivalent' so is not just polytechnic diploma. 'Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field of Engineering or equivalent local / foreign qualifications.Any evidence of additional post-diploma academic preparation, including the advanced diploma, specialist diploma and SAT I Test, will be advantageous

Graduates pursue finance course under the SIM courses. This is because they have studied business communications and management for their module.

Yes correct.
relevant Experience accumulated during the Nitec and higher nitec is also recognized. But experience can be also gained as they enter the workforce before they pursue TED or after.

If you are talking about WSQ, all courses are useless and not recognized by employer expect for government regulation like training, security, safety & etc. So no point taking them.

If anyone can enter a business related degree like finance, it is because f their Diploma in any major (cause business major does not required you to have any foundation unless engineering). So a single module like 'business communications and management' does not have that power to do so.

For SIM GE, I don't think TED meet the Entry Requirements. Maybe if you top up SIM Preparatory Course, SIM GE will accept you for their degree courses.

Don't think ITE will just gain you an module exemption even if you have experience since it is an importance module consist of 1.5 years duration of the full course and how to give you a grading if you are exemption?

Last time, my work colleague with relevant experience want to study part time Nitec in Security Technology but cannot get in without 'security company sponsor' cause 1 of the module is industrial attachment.

You isn’t supposed to be exempted in any module for diploma. Even automotive technology students have to repeat module again. Like a refresher or a new topic for a person like me.
