Sorry anyone knows how to get the IR remote transmitter in Singapore?

I got a secure room that needs someone to turn on/off certain devices but the IR remote can't penetrate through the wall. Wanted someone that allows people outside to on/off the devices inside.

I am an engineering noob (can't solder or know anything about electronics) but I can work with the OS level once the IR transmitter is installed. Any advice or is there any ready-made IR transmitter that can integrate?

anybody doing any new project?

i just got a raspberry pi 2, and started writing a smart mirror app using nodeJS & ReactJS.

Essentially, it's a web app that can make your old monitor a little smarter. Currently, it can do the following:

  • Retrieve weather details based on your current location or configured coordinates
  • Fetch latest news from RSS feeds
  • Display date time (lame, but...)
  • Understand some basic commands (wait, read for me)
  • Read the news feed article in the current view port

a preview of how it looks like currently

I'm looking for more hackers to mess around and build more functionality.

For quick-start

  • Install Raspian (OS)
  • Chromium
  • Nodejs

clone my repo

Go to OpenWeather and register a key for and replace the API_KEY in src/Utils/Constants.js

(Optional)
Generate a SSL cert (instructions)

Generating a cert will help with the speech recognition library that i'm using (annyang.js) in performance.

Your pi obviously needs internet connectivity (to fetch weather & news), you can use your ip-table to block inbound if you feel unsafe.

There are some suggestions for others, like integrating Spotify to play music, but after digging into their API, i realised that their term of use, requires user to sign in and the app needs to use OAuth2 to proceed. I find it too troublesome for the user to set up, so i abandoned that idea. I'm considering pulling emails/to-do lists from services like gmail, yahoo, wunderlist, etc

I'm looking for UI designers, so that i can make it look more attractive and nodeJS folks to help realise some other ideas that i'm building.

I'm currently working on a self-updating mechanism, it's kinda hackish, but it works for now... Spread the love :vijayadmin:

Hi, sorry for bumping this 1 year old thread up, but I've created a smart mirror too :p

Here's the link

Built from the latest Raspberry Pi 3!

This project is designed by me and I did NOT use any github projects to start off with.

Current features includes :

- Current temperature (from the nearest weather station from your house)

- Weather forecast of different regions of Singapore ( you can add as many regions as you want to), I've added my house, my gf's house and my workplace. It also tells you how the weather is like today.

- Next 4 days forecast, simple, telling you whether it will rain or not.

- Current time,day and date

- Alarm clock feature

- Bus arrival timings ( You customize this to display which bus and which bus stop according to the time of the day)

- Traffic News

- Smart greetings, will display greetings according to the time of the day

- Channel News Asia's latest news ( CNA style, bottom banner ) xD

- Play youtube videos

- Latest rain forecast of Singapore

- Show 4D results!

- Watch Channel News Asia

- Listen to Singapore's Radio Stations!

- Voice controlled too!

Here are some images of my mirror

Have anyone tried setting the Pi as a cloud storage (Nextcloud/ownCloud)? Is it easy to set up for someone who has little to no knowledge on programming/coding?
