Would like to ask anyone has experience buy from US website for refurbished unit.

Lenovo will cancel if they suspect your address was forwarded and rejected you for no reason or reason like you buy for resell bra bra bra..

Haha actually I'm quite interesting to know more than these..:s13:

Wont shipping cost make it even more expensive than local units?

Some us electronics only come with a 120v power supply that is incompatible here.

I am also considering between a used ThinkPad, cheap Chinese brand laptop.

Maybe I should just get a dell developer edition laptop with a Linux distro preinstalled.

Power supply was 100-240v that's not an issue.
Cause bought mine from eBay in US before.
Shipping cost more or less is around 100-180 SGD.
Is depend on unit cost.

Dell was good, but keyboard not as good than Thinkpads.

refurbed Thinkpads from overseas are not a bad choice actually. Just take note of the condition, etc...

X230 modded with thinner bezels to accommodate 13.3" screen. There is no official X330.

The x330 mod

But do note that USB suspend (need to disable) on Windows 10 for Ivybridge and earlier notebooks might be broken after Windows 10 1151, think its still not fixed.

The side effect is your USB removable devices won't resume after suspend for the bug unless unplug and replug.

Mod X330 screen on X230 body right.
The thing is how long can last?

Even today T460s were cheaper already.

Until the CPU dies :s13:

I really like the ergonomics of carrying it by the display lid and protruding battery

But I've bought mine new very long ago around 2012 US labour day. Its still decent.

The lids are going on taobao for <$15 at Ivybridge gen.
You can always refurb the exterior yearly if you want as well.

T430s doesn't have the best battery life in the 30 series though, especially dGPU models (also 1 more point of failure).

The 40 series is trash and not worth buying, 50 series are still years away from current Ivy TP prices so imo not worth getting at current day either.

My ideal laptop would be the x240 onwards body with the non crap trackpad from the x250 and a 1080p IPS screen... Maybe if I live I Shenzhen I can go to make my dream laptop:s13:

Still remember in t430s 2012 us labour day mine was roughly USD 1K including CA tax (bef tax 930+). Back then was about 1.25 USD/SGD.

i5, NVS 5200M, 8GB RAM, 3 year thinkpad IWS, Gobi 3000 WWAN card back then.

Later on also got a elitebook 9470M brand new HP outlet overstock (this 1 via CGW PI), also 3 year intl wty US$999 (i5-U, 8GB). That was when 9480m was out.

Both laptops are still fully alive.
