Go to Guangzhou railway station. 5mins walk to Huimei shopping mall. It's like platinum mall in Bangkok, but better and cheaper. Still got several similar malls around the area. Do a search.

secondly, is there anywhere we can find the timetable for coach, heard it is 3.5hrs which is long. I might also consider staying 1 night in HK and take train to GZ next day. any good suggestion are welcome.

Immigration is a necessity on any route. This route is not anymore troublesome than the MTR or train route. It is a normal coach. What more do you want? Google for pictures. Better yet, in Chinese.

I believe this sunflower garden is very far out from Guangzhou city. Not sure worth the trip unless you're enroute to Macau.
