Is my air-condition unit in need of a service?

I always leave my recirculation on however there are times where the unit will let air from the outside into the car. There are times when I will be casually driving but then I'll notice some foul smell from the outside. The aircon is also not very cold on a hot day.

if you feel there is anything wrong with air con system, have a pro take a look at it. They will hook up the air con pressure meter to take readings. from there, they will know where the issue is. Eve on a hot day, your air con shouldn't go hot.

1. Tomika Air conditioning
2. Yigo Car Aicon

Both located in Ubi. Tried both before and met my expectation.
BTW, both bosses are brothers.

Just to share regarding air-con circulation in my car setup since day 1 till now as my car just renew COE and passed its 10 years birthday.

No regrets to seal up the ventilation hole at the car body where you find your air-con circulation control box which you need the air-con experts to remove that whole box, you will find there is a hole cut at the body area which leads to the wiper area.

I have seal up that hole so no more outside air will penetrate to the cabin which causes your air-con filters to be dirty quite fast resulting frequent change of air-con filters.

If you understand how the air-con system in your car works, you will know that by sealing up that hole, you will only be circulating the air within your car cabin so if the filters get dirty easily then your car cabin is very dirty.

Just my sharing.

If you auto is on for a/c means once the cabin set temp is reached (For example setting is 25deg) the a/c compressor will stop.

I guess depending on car models, usually recirculate or fresh mode, there is a button and need to do it manually. Nevertheless, there would be system that has auto recirculate/fresh function.

For my car, there is no need to strip the dashboard out in order to access the air-con unit with blower fan, only require to remove the passenger glove box so not so bad. =:p

No problem, I save a lot in changing the air-con filter and also no worries even travelling behind those rubbish trucks or breathing the polluted air from the exterior of the car. =:p

To the extent, I also ask my mechanic to remove the heater from my air-con system as you do not need that in Singapore which will also helps in your fuel consumption.

Yes, Japanese car. The air-con specialist ask me whether to remove the heater pipe when I doing my air-con so I agreed as that pipe just pump in hot air from the engine to your air-con unit so when you adjust the temperature, it will open up the mixture of cold air and hot air vent opening only.

Your cooling coil is always running whether you turn your temperature switch to the hot or cold zone, there is a thermostat plug into your cooling coil so when it reaches the cooling point, it will cut off the air-con compressor and compressor cuts in when the cooling point increase in temperature, this process repeats.

So the temperature switch is just a mixture of hot air and cold air from the cooling coil.

Windows. The wind noise and REALLY fresh air will keep you awake.

Agree on that, you do not need the circulation vent to have fresh air from the outside to keep you awake during long distance drive.

Just like home air-con, it does not allow air from the outside by default unless you open your window or door to have air from outside, that applies to the car air-con as well.
