Am keen but wondering dual SIM is 4G + 3G.

As if 2G would not serve much purpose but to have microSD card instead.

The A8 Star does support 4G+3G dual SIM, with the hybrid 3-choose-2 card tray.

Taiwan's A8 Star is said to receive a software upgrade in the near future, that will enable 4G+4G, not too sure if it's applicable to Singapore's A8 Star too..

Why no waterproofing unlike the other A8 series?

And the Nokia 7 plus costs 150$ less, while offering comparable specs. Will only sell because of Samsung dominance.

Bought a white one today. I like the angular shape of it :)

One thing I dread is why they positioned the fingerprint scanner so high up. It would have been a lot more comfortable if they lower it.

Oh, and A8 Star does have a notification LED after all :)

For a cellphone that markets its awesome AI beauty mode, it does an awful job at beautifying actual pics. Its Bokeh and beauty mode falls behind the quality of Huawei P20 Pro, Oppo R11s and even Redmi Note 5 :(

Something odd is that while the beauty mode is weak, even when pushed to max in normal selfie mode, its skin smoothening effect actually became better in Selfie focus (Portrait aka Bokeh) mode.

To be fair, the 24mp selfie cam does take good sharp pics in good light, if you are already good looking and not need any beauty mode 😁

The rear camera takes good pics in dim light probably due to its F1.7 lens.

Dropped by Singtel shop today to see see look look and saw this star. My sister considering this and the A8+.

In terms of specs the star lose out on the water resistant features, 2Gb of ram but stands out on the camera, bigger screen and bigger battery.

Tough choice though.

This has got to be one of Samsung's most battery-efficient cellphones. Standby time is especially impressive, up there with Huawei P20 Pro :)

Volume is at best average though.

Same here. Decision between this $748 vs Mi Mix 2s at $699. Mi Mix 2s win by processor (SD845 vs SD660), and wireless charging. However, Miui is quite disappointed.

compared with A8+, apart from non waterprof, its Samsung pay does not support MST, and no Barometer sensor.

At $498, still a better buy over 3I

Super amoled screen
Type C port
Bigger battery
Nfc + Samsung pay

Loses out on the 64 vs 128GB, 1 vs 2 years warranty and perhaps funky purple color?

Although last weekend 398 was a earth shattering deal. Far east going for 480 currently
