So my son decided to keep fish for a hobby and planning to get a small 9litre tank..

What is the max number of fish I can keep in there?
Will be keeping fish like tetras, guppies or danios.

Then a layer of colored stones n sands at the bottom
Maybe 1-2 Moss balls and 1 plant.

5-10 small fishes for interest sake
But if u use calculator is 1-2

Anyways what equiptment do u intend to get ?
Know about cycling or nitrogen cycle ?

Skip the stones and sand ,it will do more harm for u at this stage of the hobby

Plants , moss or the java. Series of plants .
Some too fancy one hard to maintain

Thanks, read about tank cycling using more hardy fishes...

Why stones will do more harm?

My house is undergoing some minor renovation plus painting of whole house at the 1st week of sept. After that I can buy my 2 feet tank + cabinet.

Then I can transfer the 2 cory from small tank to the big tank and add more fishes

its very challenging for newbie to keep fish in such a small tank.
I will go for a 2x1x1 ft if space permits.

Nice. Since u getting new tank, take your time and do a planted tank while cycling your tank before transferring your corys.

No colored stones and Moss balls for newbie, if u dun have a good filtration system, u will clean until die...

Keep a group of either tetras or guppies, cos these fishes move in group, if u mix them, they dun look nice unless u have a big tank. Suggest to get all male guppy for their big ass tale...

if u intend to brew , can make it 2 female to 1 male, with the tank planted , but such a small tank, bread also very hard to happen:s22:

u can try to start with 10 male guppies and see if its too crowded a not

if u wan to save $ first while testing is yr son is it he really interested or just 3 min interest only, can get those feeder fish guppy to try out first

Moss ball still can take out whole ball and clean
Sand and stones the Poo and all the rubbish will sink under it , cleaning is messy and when u stir it , u Will mess the water badly and all the nitrate ..ouch...

My tank I have gravel but I vacuum every Inch once a week and the rays will make sure not much solid stuff is under it

try not to get those stones that are too big that they create gaps that will trap fish waste and uneaten food at the bottom.

it will foul the water very fast.
