I have just started year 3 in NUS. Was previously from JC with a score of 78 points... at the moment I'm thinking of taking a gap year or even dropping out as uni is taking a toll on my mental health. Just wondering if there are any cases of JC students that choose not to go to university but work instead?

I am thinking about eventually taking a part time degree in a private u but for now I hope to explore my options and venture into the working field. Any tips advice and opinions will be very much appreciated!

It's 4 more sems/2 years technically... I know I'm already half way through...

Is Year 3 NUS Real Estate modules that difficult? I am also currently in Real Estate.

You got 78 rank points, far higher than most of your peers in that Real Estate cohort. With such stellar A level results, this course should be not be too difficult for you.

It's an easy course and my gpa is okay but that's not the point whether it's easy or hard though... I just feel like I'm studying something that I dislike and won't use in the future... I chose real estate as it was something that my uncle did and I got convinced to get into but I now realised how much i dislike this course and how much I won't see myself working in this field/business field

Go explore further on what u can do with the real estate degree! Frankly speaking it's a very useful course which the career prospect is very wide! Interesting & useful or not depends on individual's perception towards it!

I've always been interested in animals and would hope to be able to work in that field (zoo/night safari) ans honestly don't think that having a real estate degree will help though... I used to think that having a degree will be a safety net especially an Nus one but I'm not caught up in the whole "working 9-5, stable office job and earn a high income". I should have made up my mind long ago but I guess it's still something that I'm worried about... so thought i will ask for some unbiased opinion on what I plan to do

There are many people who obtain a degree but do not go into that field of expertise. Perhaps why not take a gap year if you really need to and complete it when you feel better.

Don't give up halfway.

All the best!

Thank u for your advice! So u think I should continue with this degree instead of taking a private one that I will be interested in?

Yes, because you can always jump into masters in a different field of expertise should you wish to after your degree. So do not give up, persevere. At the same time , it inculcates a form of resilience in you so that you don't back down easily.

If you can't do a master's in zoological sciences, work and gain some experience after your degree and see if your needs and wants have changed . By then, should you remain steadfast in your wants, then apply for a degree /masters.

Frankly speaking , many things can change after one year. So one step at a time yeah!

U said mental health not good, can U take private one?

my cousin dropped out of NUS; also cannot take the stress. Today he is a delivery man in his late 40s. He did attempt to do part time thinking that is of his interest but work and study later stress and lost interest in that major. dropping out again.. he went on to be taxi driver; lock himself for many months before changing for the better.

another relative also drop out of Uni last year, stayed at home taking care of grandpa a year and today learning to be a truck or delivery driver. Don't have any Gates or Jobs or Steve stories to share.

such jobs no idea if they need ppl with masters. but quick google all I see are these. these places do need volunteer, u can go test water
