Hello everyone, I'm an undergraduate student majoring in EE but wish to work in IT field. So recently I found Institute of Systems Science under NUS offers this GDipSA course which provides possibility for major changing. But I wonder whether this course would really help when seeking IT jobs after graduated? :s11:

Or anyone has applied/enrolled/graduated from this GDip course?=:p

Thanks for your reply. :s22:

This course was on my radar many years back, I think the curriculum is quite ok. That aside, if I'm not wrong, it's a full-time course. Do factor that into your consideration as at graduate level, other grad diploma like the one in ICT offered by NTU can be taken on a part-time basis. Fyi.

Oh Paladine you must be an experienced senior=:p, thank you so much for your kindly advice!:)

And could you pls provide some information about the advantages/disadvantages for this full-time GDipSA course compared with other part-time GDipICT or full-time Master courses when seeking a job? Many thanks for your help!

Hello Asslann, I contacted with the program assistant and she said this GDip can accept EE students like me. The first reason is, only C language and a little C++ were taught in our undergraduate programming courses, OOP, Java and C# were totally bypassed, but I don't think enterprises will also bypass them... Secondly, the assistant said this course aims at work-related experience but not deep research, so it welcomes those who want to find jobs with more exp after graduated. In these cases she thought I should be eligible for this course.

But I still confused about the pros and cons when competing with other FT/PT GDip or Master stus...:o

bringing up an old thread. any reviews on this gdip?
Good. A former colleague who interned under me completed this course and recommended it to me. I went in on the Masters in Technology (Knowledge Engineering) track and found it overall quite boring. I therefore recommend ISS only for students who are keen on living an aloof life free from sensuality but alot of tech jargon. My personal take on the Graduate Diploma on System Analysis is that if you were already a tech geek and / or NUS alumni seeking your first postgraduate, ISS is the good place to be whether their Masters in Technology or Graduate Diploma.

Yet, if you were an NTU alumni or non-NUS alumni, I may only recommend ISS because you like the branding.

If you are alright with a similar diploma less competitive in nature, check out Republic Polytechnic's Specialist Diplomas in ICT fields, they are similar and work even better at a much lower price for locals.

Why would you not recommend it for NTU alumni unless for the branding? :s11:

Do the stackable way. Don't quit your job to do it full time, not really worth it. It is a good cert to get into Tech industry without BComp and that's about it.

It is probably sufficient to get you started as a System Analyst/Consultant or Full Stack Developer but not enough to be a real deal software engineer.

Many topics covered are just touch and go without too much depth. You will have to explore those depth on your own. (lack of depth in data structures and algorithms)

Nevertheless it is a fun course to be in. Yet to quit a job to do it would be too high of a price to pay.

Depending on what you want, there are many cheaper alternatives out there.

Problem is that this course is not offered part-time. Do you have any suggestions for part time courses?
