The link I posted has 13 FAQs which, if one takes the effort to peruse, would clarify a tonne of doubts. Problem is people don't try.

Because most of the people will expect you to handover to them the fishes, instead of teaching them how to fish :D

Nothing to do with fishing. Just because something may be easy or simple to understand to you, doesn't mean everyone else is the same. There can be a multitude of other reasons such as not being strong in English, not financially savvy as pointed out. Just like how some people in their 40s or 50s or later still have difficulties using a PC or smartphone just for simple messaging or Whatsapp. Or how some elderly in their 60s or 70s still do not even understand how fixed deposits work.

just got back from Citibank and intending to open a 2nd joint account, but was told that multiple accounts by an individual, are no longer allowed. Also was told that from 2 Jan 2019, there will be a revision of interest download, from 80% of SIBOR to 70%. All good things will soon come to an end :(

If you can kindly provide a hard copy of whatever the customer officer written and counter signed his/her name on it, that will be great.

If only hearsay, please refer to previous posts on "hearsays" without supporting evidence.

Nothing new about this. An individual has never been allowed to open multiple accounts (in their own name) for some time now. It was possible in the past. I have a number of individual (my name only) accounts with several banks; but it's not possible to do so anymore.

Similarly, two (or more) individuals have always been allowed to open one joint account between them. The loophole in the past was you could have two - a joint-all, and joint-alternate; but they no longer permit that now too.

So, if you have two other friends, you can open a total of 7 accounts between the three of you. (3 individual, 3 joint with two names, and 1 joint with three names).

Also was told that from 2 Jan 2019, there will be a revision of interest download, from 80% of SIBOR to 70%. All good things will soon come to an end :(

Told by who? Please do share the name of the person who told you that.

SIBOR suddenly goes 1.63 after idling at 1.51x for so long. Hope it's another step up, not just a spike. Woohoo...
