Hi guys, first time using this forum.

I'm entering NTU acc next year and theres this new programme called "Bachelor of Accountancy with Second Specialisation in Predictive and Forensic Analytics*". But just wondering if the "Second Specialisation In Predictive & Forensic Analytics" is worth the extra AU and effort?

Will the 2nd spec be beneficial assuming that I enter audit in a big 4 company in the future?

Also, will the 2nd spec make it much easier for me to branch into forensic accounting?

Thank you!

If you take a minor, all the AU from your minor would replace all your GERPE/UE AUs and you can’t SU Minor mods

ACFA is definitely an advantage. I'm from NTU Accountancy and currently interning at a Big 4. Having some knowledge of analytics is useful regardless of which dept you go to.

Btw, all NBS students from 2018 onwards have to take a Programming module as a Core. Both Business and Accountancy students. So you might want to consider whether you really want to take up the Forensic Analytics bit. Cyber Security is hot right now and it pays, so.. do think carefully. Most importantly, consider your interests.

That being said, NTU is able to sustain its 3-year programme because it compresses a lot of its content. Each module is PACKED. When you come in, be prepared to work hard from the get-go. I can tell you most of its modules are worth 2 in other universities. When you try to map modules for exchange, you need 2 overseas uni modules to match to 1 NTU module for some cases. Take it as an accelerated degree programme and get ready for a wild and fast ride! - Advice from a Y3:)

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind advice! It's really hard to find info about the 2nd spec online.

Regarding this, I thought the 2nd spec will just replace all my UE? So either I take the 2nd spec or I will be doing a bunch of irrelevant UE? It won't really be affected by the programming core, am I right?

That is absolutely correct.

NBS students have 3 GERPEs and 4 UEs:
The 3 GERPEs are - STS (Sci/Tech/Society), BM (Business Management) and LA (Liberal Arts).
The new programming module, called Programming for Business Analytics, will fulfil the GERPE-STS component. It is also now classified as GER-CORE. This means that you will no longer have any STS requirements.

Effectively, your entire degree will be "fixed" apart from GERPE-BM and GERPE-LA. If I'm not wrong, that means you can only S/U these 2 modules. Because the other analytics modules count to your 2nd spec, you won't be able to S/U them. However, I'm not 100% certain about this S/U rule.

At the end of the day, you will have to decide whether taking 1 programming module is sufficient, and whether you really want to do a total of 5 analytics mods. IMO, it is definitely more useful that taking up random UEs, but then there has to be a balance also. Taking UEs like music, foreign languages, etc can also add breadth and contribute to a more holistic development. So do consider both sides :)

U really clarified a lot of my doubts! Thanks so much!

I know Im late to this and the questions have been answered, but would just like to input that my IT prof in ntu said that ntu is very up-to-date with the industry and this second spec was tailored to meet industry needs.
