Hey guys. So i have my ps4 slim plugged into my TV via hdmi. there's a 3.5mm jack which indicates it loops with the hdmi port.

plugged my PC/multimedia 2.1 speakers in (red one) and it still plays from my TV speakers rather than the 2.1

Anyone knows what is going on? TV settings for audio is limited. The PS4 audi output settings and sound settings only has one option which is "TV or amplifier"

Do I really need a DAC even for a TV that has 3.5mm jack?

If you plug the PC 2.1 speakers into the TV, then watch TV program (channel 5, channel 8) on the TV, does audio (of the TV program) still come out from the TV's own speakers or from the external speakers? I got a feeling that for such old TV, the 3.5 mm output may only work for TV source and not for HDMI input source. (Today might be the last day to try, since analog TV will be history.)

Erm no...

The 3.5mm is an input together with the HDMI; for use with for example older computers which don't have sound from HDMI or DVI.

You're supposed to connect to a headphone out (which usually mutes the TV speakers) or to RCA out and manually mute your TV... However it looks like your TV doesn't have output connections

So no choice but to get a HDMI audio extractor

On the same note, is there any way to have sound coming from both the tv, and the headset while plugged into the controller?
