World have similar rank system up to the rank of COL and after that it get abit complicated.
Communist link countries like China have this rank like this COL and then Senior COL (大校). Some western countries like UK call their 'Senior COL' as Brigadier. They are under Field Grade (Senior / Field Officer). Then follow by General Officer start from MG (1 star GEN : 少将), LG (2 star GEN : 中将), GEN (3 star Gen : 上将). It may stop at GEN like china or will have more ranks like Russia and North Korea.
If we talk about South Korea, Field Grade (Senior / Field Officer) stop at COL. Follow by General Officer start from BG (1 star Gen : 准將 which sound like 'Warrant GEN'), MG (2 star GEN : 少將), LG (3 star GEN : 中将) and GEN (4 star GEN : 大將). Depend on the service force, they may have higher rank.
If we want to compare, Senior COL is equal to BG (Brigadier vs BG) but different treatment between a Field Officer and General Officer.
So when we see 1 star GEN between countries, they may not have the same rank (BG vs MG).

Let add something in for fun to make things more complicated! SAF General Officer start from BG (1 star Gen : 少將), MG (2 star GEN : 中将) and LG (3 star GEN : 上将). So if SAF BG (1 star Gen : 少將) compare with South Korea, does it have the same rank as BG (1 star Gen : 准將) or MG (2 star GEN : 少將)?
