I tried some time ago...

As an update, since I have the access point in my room (regardless of which router I use), and that I don’t really move my laptop around, I’ve managed to find a spare old long Ethernet cable and just physically connect everything and hide the remaining wire under my bed. Makes a decent workaround that I forgot to consider

It’s interesting how my laptop seems to only accept half Gbps speed. Might be an issue with the laptop itself rather than that Ethernet cable since I also tried the newer cable from different machine that had the full Gbps connection and still got 50% throttled.

Well anyway 500Mbps is better than 80Mbps haha. Just a small sacrifice to keep it physically connected

You need to learn the right concept instead of blindly following procedure to key in information.

Get to know when there will have conflict

-Only 1 Router taking care of Internet gateway
-Only 1 DHCP Server within the subnet
-Secondary router set to Bridge/AP should use static IP address within the same subnet of 1st router.

Understand the fundamental
-what is Router Mode ?
Serve as internet gateway to map Internal IP address to the main router external IP address.

-what is Access Point/Bridge
=>Only doing traffic forwarding job,

Below configuration only works for Internet connection without Vlan Settings.
Router is default with No Vlan profile .

1st Router Configuration
1. Master Reset Router to a known State.
-> Router Mode.
-> Default IP for Dlink router , 192.168.0.1

2.Change DHCP Address allocation .
Change it to start DHCP Allocation from 192.168.0.100 and up
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

DNS: default
Gateway:default

Save the settings .

Conflict on 2nd router.
  • =>Must configure it as Access Point so that it stops to carry out Router duty..doing the IP Address Translation ( NAT)
  • => Must turn off DHCP Server ( Very important ), there should have only ONE DHCP server per subnet . Having 2 will create network conflict

To avoid conflict of settings. Isolate the 1st router from 2nd router during configuration.

2nd router configuration.2nd Router (let's call it Router-B)
1) 2nd Router as Standalone unit ( No connection between Main router to secondary router).
2) Master Reset 2nd Router to a known state.
=>Revert to Router mode.

3) Refer to Router's manual to know the router admin page IP address and default password.
4) Connect a computer to the LAN port of 2nd Router.
-Computer Ethernet adapter to use DHCP Settings ,this is to allow seamless connection between computer and 2nd Router.

5) Access to the 2nd Router
How to find Router's IP Address
-Refer to the router's user manual to know the default IP address/From Router's label usually has this information
Or
From the Notebook..Run "cmd" , then issue "Ipconfig "
This will list the gateway IP Address ,Gateway is your Router IP Address
Or
Click on Property page of Ethernet Adapter to know the Gateway IP Address .

Dlink Router mostly using 192.168.0.1 as default IP Address

6) From Within the 2nd Router Web Server page/Admin page
-From LAN Setup Tab.
- Turn Off DHCP Server from Lan setup page
- Set Router IP address to use Static IP Address.
=> The IP Address must be within the same subnet as 1st Router.
Example
First Router IP Address :192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

2nd Router Static IP Address Configuration

Static IP Address :192.168.0.50 (make sure main Router DHCP does not use this IP Address.), IP last octet @ .50 is a safe figure unless you
have more than 50 devices.
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: <Main Router 's IP Address> 192.168.0.1 for this case
DNS : <1st Router IP address > or you can use 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS Server)
if you have 2 DNS settings, use 1st Router IP and 8.8.8.8

7.2nd Router Wireless Settings
Change the SSID name to suit your needs.
I would purposely set a unique SSID for 2nd router to differentiate between 1st Router Wireless SSID name for ease of troubleshooting.

Save the settings of 2nd Router.

Complete hardware connections.
1. 1st router WAN port connect to ONT
1. Connect 2nd Router LAN port to 1st router LAN port with Ethernet cable.

-Make Sure not to use IPTV dedicated LAN Port of 1st Router
2. Connect notebook over to 2nd Router LAN Port. YOu should have internet connection.

Having the same issue.. tried above steps but no luck. Seems the router doesn't give an IP after changing to wirelesa AP. I can't even log in into the router using the default ip 192.168.0.50. Router is updated to the latest firmware.

-when you first configure the 868l as AP, it will have an ip address of 192.168.0.50

-upon connection to the main router, unless you reserve an IP address of your AP in the main router, it will get random ip address from the DHCP pool.
