There are a lot of Sectors and these are the popular WSQ Skills Framework for courses:

a. Business Management;
b. Employability Skills;
c. Leadership and People Management; and
d. Service Excellence

A lot of private schools are providing this courses and they are targeting those who have meet the requirement for Workfare Training Support (WTS) Scheme.

Eligible WTS individuals may receive:

  • Course fee subsidy to lower training costs (Course fees become much lower).
  • Training allowance when training is relevant to their job and individuals had paid for their own training (With training allowance, Students already cover back the low course fees and some more still got spare money).
  • A cash reward of $1,000 for completing training for WSQ Diploma, Specialist Diploma, Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma (More money).

By right at WSQ Diploma level & above, the standard is high because needs to do project and etc. However those who meet WTS and coming for this course are elderly who may not be educated. Since it is in-house assessment, end up the trainer cum assessor give them template, help them and allow them to copy each other just to pass the course.

Because of this reason, government is going to change from $1,000 to $200 for these WSQ Skills Framework with the effect of 1 August 2019.

That why I stereotype these WSQ Skills Framework Diploma are useless since you may not even know anything from the course and auto get the qualification by copying. At least PEIs Diploma courses have higher standard to prepare student for degree courses.

There are a lot of WSQ Diploma courses, so which one are you referring to? For my point of view, all WSQ courses are useless unless it is required by regulation such as safety, security, training and etc. For example, you don't needs a WSQ Diploma in Service Leadership in order to work in service industry like retail and you still can advance your career to managerial position without qualification.

There are a lot of WSQ Diploma courses, so which one are you referring to? You did not share and how will we be able to answer your question?

If you want to become a Registered Safety Officer someday, then WSQ Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health will be recognized.

If you want to work in Service sector like retail, no one really care about qualification such as WSQ Diploma in Service Leadership. In this case, why should you get a higher pay just because you are a Diploma holder?

If you have nothing to sell about yourself, you may included useless WSQ qualification like WSQ Diploma in Service Leadership or else, don't waste space for quoting WSQ qualification in your CV since your experience or even ITE qualification worth much more than a WSQ Diploma.

It's blunt, but true. Ha ha, Kyoji83 go straight to the point, no flowery words.
Academic certs still weight heavier than WSQ ones.. unless it's those that industry specific ones. many courses have converted to WSQ frame work to take advantage of the subsidies. Like the Registered Safety Officer course, used to be called SOTC in the polytechnics. Now it's converted to the WSQ Diploma. And without this cert (or a approved degree in H&S), you cant register as one.

Have better than dont have I guess, considering the amount of time to acquire one.

But of course academic diploma carries more weightage than WSQ diploma for sure.. :)

Might as well ask your boss just print out a Diploma Certificate with company logo and he sign for it may worth more than WSQ Diploma during job interview?

WSQ diploma often gives people the false sense of having a use-it-for-everything qualification. Not that WSQ diploma is bad but the framework it is based on is totally different from an academic diploma.

WSQ will be good for regulated work such as WSH. But often people think that having a WSQ diploma equates to having an academic 3-year PET or 2.5-year CET diploma and argue that why I have WSQ diploma and you don’t recognise my DIPLOMA. Truth is, not all men with beard are your Father; not all qualifications named with ‘diploma’ are the same.

WSQ qualification is very much competency based which is why the grade is either C for competent or NYC for non yet competent. While for an academic diploma, ABC grading comes in together with GPA. It’s a long list of differences la, just note the intent purpose of WSQ and academic framework is not the same.

If you want your CV to look nicer, just put Diploma but end day people will know that this is a WSQ Diploma when they ask for your awarding bodies or certificate.

Just asking, Higher Certificate level and above is equivalent to which state level? (ITE/Polytechnic?)

Depend on the country and organization that you are applying for job for enrollment for higher education.

In Singapore, Higher Nitec is consider 'Higher Certificate' level which is at ITE standard. In UK, a Higher National Certificate is consider Degree Year 1 standard.

However if you are talking about WSQ Higher Certificate, this is a 'Skill' qualification rather then 'Academic' qualification. Unless government got involvement (like setting job regulation such as safety, training, security or partner with overseas university for higher education), it actually is a useless certificate that rank below ITE standard. For example, at least you can sign on with a job in government/public sector with a ITE qualification but you will never be able to do that with a WSQ qualification.

There are 2 goals that government may want to achieve.

1) I once heard that government want everyone to have at least a Diploma to meet the requirement of 'tertiary education trained Singapore' but I don't have source to back my comment up.

2) And those who are studying full time such as WSQ Diploma, they are not consider unemployed in government statistics.

So when you can get $1K+ for studying to get a free sure pass WSQ Diploma, sure a lot of those lower educated or/and unemployed citizens will went for this course. This allow the government to meet the objective of low unemployment rate and we are a 'tertiary education trained Singapore'.

How about WLTD then? Since it is skillfuture, not worth it or worth it?

This is from ITE, right? With a TED, you can enter NUS BTech however not sure for WLTD since ITE never state anything and I think 1st batch of students has not graduated yet.

For me, I am interested in WLTD (Mechanical & Electrical Services Supervision) cause it is recognized to become a RTO but I did not sign up for it.

As for other courses, I don't think you needs a Diploma such as WLTD /CET Diploma/Polytechnic Diploma or just have any Private Diploma in relevant trade to work in most of the industries.

I may also consider Data Centre Infrastructure & Operation since it is a 'future job' and good start to get a foot into the industry.

WLTD is a work while studying course and it target young people to get government monetary award and low wages around $,1500 to less than $2,000 (but reasonable wages for Nitec/Higher Nitec fresh graduates) from employer. Old people like me will not entitled to monetary award from government and I cannot survived on low wages since I have family commitment.

How about WLTD then? Since it is skillfuture, not worth it or worth it?
