I've a friend who went to ITE without O levels, then did diploma in poly. Now deciding to apply for DipEd. What are the chances? Is it a must to have O levels with 5 credits?

Yes, I would think so. This is why David Hoe (last time an NT student) worked his way from NT to O level so that he has the right qualifications to apply to be an MOE teacher. Now he is teaching in Eunoia JC. Mad respect for him :) you can go read up on him. Would have been better if MOE posted him to, say, Spectra or Northlight. I'm sure the kids there would really look up to him!

Perhaps you could encourage your friend to apply and see how?

Hi what do you mean 15 July? Haha the contract offer on 15 July? I have another interview on 23 May don’t know if will be processed in time for this year 😢
Perhaps it might be snowballed together with the june/july batch of interviewees to be processed.

Thanks for sharing. I just read up about him. So much of hard work and perseverance there. Really look up to people like him who strive to achieve their goals. You're right that he should be posted to schools like Northlight. He would be able to relate to them and give his best in teaching them.

Not to discourage anyone. I have the similar background, skipped O's, went to ITE, completed my diploma. However, my GPA was not good enough to enter any local Uni in Singapore. I thought of giving DipEd a try since i thought they would be more lenient as its a diploma again. However, I was totally wrong. I had applied for DipEd twice since 2018 and 2019 twice it got rejected. Only options were to take Private O levels and get 5 credits in order to be considered or to apply for Kindergarten teaching and slowly make my way up! But that would take for ages.

However, if teaching's what you want, dont hesitate to persevere like David Hoe.

I took the longer route to finally get into the PGDE PRI programme too. Graduated from Lasalle with BA Honours, did not realise MOE did not recognise the accreditations on my certificates and that puzzled me for years as to why I kept getting rejected by them. I went to work as an art teacher for agencies for a few years whilst reapplying, and finally decided to take on another Specialist diploma in Arts Education that is endorsed by NIE-NAC. After a good 7 years upon graduation and armed with a BA Hons degree, a Specialist Diploma and a diploma (the paper chase was real and pathetically draining), I finally got that coveted spot in NIE after a whole year of waiting since my interview in July 2018.

I regret not finding out what my options were like earlier on, but do not think it was time wasted as I gained valuable teaching, classroom management skills and made friends with plenty of teachers along the way.

MOE surely works in mysterious ways; from the varying lengths of time throughout the selection process to how they choose their candidates. We may just never know what is it that they exactly want! It all boils down to how much you think you want this as a career, not a mere job. So if you think you are having it bad by having to wait a few months for a reply, just bear in mind that the journey that lies ahead in teaching is going to be a never ending curveball of testing your patience and tenacity!

Hey mrskhalis, I’m also a mid career applicant for PGDE Art. Did the interview on 12 Mar and received medical email early last week. Hope yours will come soon!

Hi Ohhyani. Glad to find a fellow Art PGDE! I am happy for you, good that u did not have to wait too long like some others in this forum. I did my interview same day as u. it was very late, at 6pm and the interviewers look so tired by then.
Maybe they forgot about me altogether haha.

But she went for interview, shouldn't it be in process or shortlisted?

Hi Passionate Teacher and Chlennis! Yes Chlennis is right. My status at C@G is still 'submitted'. HOwever, i did call up MOE HR to ask my status and they updated me that it is 'in process'. They still did not update the C@G one though. Hang in there Chlennis, we are in the same boat! So long as there is no reject email yet, there is still a sliver of HOPE. =D I have a hunch that they are not clearing AED tnl as fast because we have a job still? Just a guess =)
