Have a budget of around 1k. Saw this gaming laptop for ard $959. Gtx 1050 good enough for casual gaming of steam games like the first, subnautical kind of games?

Gtx 1050 should be sufficient for FHD causal gaming.
For newer games, image quality may have to be lowered.

Too bad, discontinued the below 1k model already. Now looking at aftershock 1650 series but cost 500 more...

If you are not in a rush, you should wait for the upcoming IT fair. While they said discontinued, sometimes you will find older models being sold during IT show at a discounted rate to clear stock.

Unlikely. y530 is backlogged by several weeks. Some students who ordered with school promos haven't even received their laptops yet. I suspect Asus will have better deals for coming IT Show.

I managed to get the Lenovo Y530 when it was still available - $960 for i5-8300H/8GB RAM/128GB SSD/GTX1050. I added extra 8GB ram myself and a harddisk for additional storage.

I havent tried a lot of games but it works well for dota/LOL/GTA 5/assasin creed (all max definitions)

it is a solid gaming laptop for the price but unfortunately it has been discontinued and replaced with the Y540 which is more expensive (but it's still available in certain countries like Australia)

MX150 is sufficient if you're playing games in poly/uni because you're unlikely to play games tougher than what your friends com can handle. No need to get something too powerful.

Sorry I tried to check my fps for GTA V but I couldn't do so without installing an external software for it which I'm not keen...

I'm currently playing AC Unity, which has been pretty smooth for me. Maybe I'd try out PUBG soon, though I think it is way more demanding on the laptop.
