the protest is generally a peaceful one so I would not worry too much about it

was there during "umbrella protest" .. the streets are less crowded & could cross Nathan Road easily at any point bcos road was closed off ... not too good for business though

for peace of mind, just avoid the protest areas at night

if MFA issues travel advisory close to your travel date, then there is a valid reason to claim insurance provided you bought insurance before-hand

will be there in early Nov

Airline might not refund you ... unless MFA issue travel advisory advising not to travel to Hong Kong ... else if u cancel your own, they wont refund you ...
Travel insurance high chance wont refund you too ...
If still very bad condition in Hong kong after MFA issue travel advisory, travel insurance might refund you 50% only ... they would usually not refund you fully as mentioned by someone on the travel insurance thread ...

if u travelling to hong kong soon, and you have not purchase travel insurance.
if your travel date still have protest going on, the travel insurance might not cover you. since the incident have been made known to the public ...

Heading to HK in a few days time...cross fingers!

Heard that they will pass the bill on 20 June.
From now till then, dunno what will happen but hopefully/ most likely it will remain peaceful.

If they go on strike, then jialat for tourists.
Holiday ruined!

I don't think can claim from insurance.
There's no travel advisory against going there.

But u can call the insurance company for advice.

there is no advisory against HK travel at this moment so insurer wont cover if u choose not to travel

unless u have bought Aviva, which provides trip cancellation for ANY reason, but the benefits are halved (with conditions)

if have not bought any insurance yet & insurer make this a "known event", then unlikely to cover

always buy travel insurance once major commitments are made eg airfare / hotel .. dont wait til last minute

Spoken to my HK colleague this morning, everything as usual except some roads closed and cause inconvenience to others.

Most likely if you are traveling during this period, there is nothing much you can do ... You would not be able to claim travel insurance if you have purchased one. Unless MFA has issued travel advisory informing us not to fly there.
so far no such travel advisory imposed yet ...

If you are traveling soon, and you have not purchased your travel insurance.
If you are going to purchase soon, you would not be able to claim for anything related to the protest event, since is has been made known to the public few days ago already ...

Let's hope that the airline staff wont go on protest ...
else travel cancellations or flight delay might affect those flying there soon ...

the HK Govt has decided to suspend the debate of the proposed extradition bill

some political commentators opined it is very unlikely the bill would be brought up again ... like 2003 Article 23 ...

Oct is so far away, it will be hard to predict. By then, this episode may subside but new episodes may surface. Overall, protest are very focus as far as location is concerned. It was the media keep replaying it in the TV giving you an impression it is all over the places.

Was in HK last week, basically if u r in Kowloon, everything is business as usual. Crowded like sardines everywhere. Don’t think anyone there knows or care what’s happening on HK island other than what’s reported on tv

HK protests are peaceful in general.

What is of more concern is the disruption to MTR and sometimes the roads if it spills over.

If you need to reach some attraction in time, plan for sufficient time to get there.

Monitor this Twitter account for any possible delays to MTR due to the protests - https://twitter.com/mtrupdate

Doubt the protest will end anytime soon ...
Flying in Aug, might have to change our itinerary for the places we are heading to

Perhaps try to avoid those places where they would be having protest.
If possible, plan for alternatives ...

Will be staying in Shatin next week, four days, so if I come back alive I'll let you now...….

Safe? Demonstrations are concentrated, so the worst side-effect for us is getting around - road closures, bus routes, trains. From yesterday i already would have minor problems with travel.

The biggest thing is that I have friends whose apartment was upstairs from the first mall that was broken into and torn up so, in reality, travel disruption is minor.
