planning to go hong kong in oct, and just saw the news. if the protest worsen, is it possible to get refund for air ticket for SIA? or does any insurance company got cover for cancellation due to unsafe to go? thanks.
the protest is generally a peaceful one so I would not worry too much about it
was there during "umbrella protest" .. the streets are less crowded & could cross Nathan Road easily at any point bcos road was closed off ... not too good for business though
for peace of mind, just avoid the protest areas at night
if MFA issues travel advisory close to your travel date, then there is a valid reason to claim insurance provided you bought insurance before-hand
will be there in early Nov

Heading to HK in a few days time...cross fingers!
If buy travel insurance and don't want to travel during this period, possible to claim back from insurance the cancelled tickets?Heard that they will pass the bill on 20 June.
From now till then, dunno what will happen.
If they strike, then jialat for tourists.
Holiday ruined!

there is no advisory against HK travel at this moment so insurer wont cover if u choose not to travel
unless u have bought Aviva, which provides trip cancellation for ANY reason, but the benefits are halved (with conditions)
if have not bought any insurance yet & insurer make this a "known event", then unlikely to cover
always buy travel insurance once major commitments are made eg airfare / hotel .. dont wait til last minute
