This is from ITE, right? With a TED, you can enter NUS BTech however not sure for WLTD since ITE never state anything and I think 1st batch of students has not graduated yet.

For me, I am interested in WLTD (Mechanical & Electrical Services Supervision) cause it is recognized to become a RTO but I did not sign up for it.

As for other courses, I don't think you needs a Diploma such as WLTD /CET Diploma/Polytechnic Diploma or just have any Private Diploma in relevant trade to work in most of the industries.

I may also consider Data Centre Infrastructure & Operation since it is a 'future job' and good start to get a foot into the industry.

WLTD is a work while studying course and it target young people to get government monetary award and low wages around $,1500 to less than $2,000 (but reasonable wages for Nitec/Higher Nitec fresh graduates) from employer. Old people like me will not entitled to monetary award from government and I cannot survived on low wages since I have family commitment.

Mine would be vertical transportation and port automation.
I am amazed they can get data operation and control centre as for WLTD tho.

Since you already take the course, I can only wish you all the best.

For me, I feel that there are limited jobs you can do with this major since there are limited organizations (port and terminal) in Singapore.

Diploma or Degree holders in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Marine) can also work in this industry but they can also work in other industry especially for M&E.

From this WLTD Programme Booklet Apr 19 Intake ( https://www.ite.edu.sg/wps/wcm/conn...me+Booklet_Apr+19+Intake_upd2.pdf?MOD=AJPERES ), you will start your career as Assistant Service Engineer and let assume you are under PSA. I am not sure if you are able to get promotion to become a Service Engineer ( https://www.psamarine.com/opportunities/service-engineer/ ) since you are lack of a Degree.

-------------------------------------------------------

RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidates are expected to:-

  • Lead and deploy Technical Specialists in the team, who carry out maintenance and repair work of marine crafts and their machinery, and related workshop equipment;
  • Update Technical Services Management team on the manpower strength of his shift daily and manage engagement levels within the team;
  • Coordinate with Fleet Management Operations team daily for repair and maintenance of marine crafts and to provide feedback on readiness of marine crafts for operations;
  • Take lead in driving Fleet Innovation and/or newbuilds construction projects;
  • Review stock items and propose recommendations to stock spares for maintenance and repair work;
  • Plan and monitor the maintenance schedule of all equipment onboard marine crafts and in the workshop;
  • Responsible for the learning and development, performance and discipline of the team of Technical Specialists;
  • Mentor, coach and motivate the team of Technical Specialists to achieve the relevant targets and outcomes;
  • Work with the key managers to co-create a conducive working environment; and
  • Upkeep and maintain proper records of all assets, jobs done, purchase for spares, special tools and manpower utilisation.

REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate should preferably:

  • Possess at least a bachelorā€™s degree in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical or its equivalent;
  • Have good cross-discipline knowledge in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering domain;
  • Have good knowledge of electrical and instrument systems and familiar with electrical schematics diagram and symbols;
  • Have good leadership qualities and flair for problem-solving and project management skills;
  • Have good interpersonal skills with the ability to build cordial and effective working relationships with people at all levels;
  • Have good communications skills especially in drafting written reports as well as doing business presentations; and
  • More experienced candidates may be considered for a senior position.

-------------------------------------------------------

Somemore I feel that WLTD Programme Booklet Apr 19 Intake is very misleading. M&E Services Supervision show that WLTD graduate will start as Resident Technical Officer and their CAREER PROGRESSION PATHWAY will become a Resident Engineer. This is true provided this WLTD graduate have a Degree or else s/he will forever remain as Resident Technical Officer.

Mine would be vertical transportation and port automation.
I am amazed they can get data operation and control centre as for WLTD tho.

What HCM academy say is true that studying a HR courses prepare you to have the right working skills. It is the same as studying TP Diploma in Police & Security Studies but does it guarantee you a Police job with SPF?

What does your common sense tell you about WSQ specialist diploma (HR) from HCM academy? No school can guarantee you a job for self sponsored courses.

For those who are naive, you do not needs a qualification in HR to work as HR professional. Getting a qualification in HR such as WSQ specialist diploma (HR) from HCM academy does not guarantee you a HR job.

I registered for the WSQ Diploma in Films and Television (Audio Engineering) at Mediacorp. The original fee was 20k but subsidized to 6k and the course is for 1 year and only 3 lessons per week.

My highest qualification is only o levels and got rejected to local polys and also lasalle

Going for the wsq diploma, did i make the right choice?

Hi,

We are not fortune tellers so we will not be able to tell you whether you have made a right choice based on such a short paragraph.

So perhaps you can share more information. Or other than this WSQ diploma, what other courses you are keen in so we can share our opinions. Why didnt you opt for ITE or even retake O?

Oh sorry my bad. Lemme elaborate

So basically, got 19 points for my o levels. Went to SP for Electrical Electronics Engineering but somehow by 2nd year, was too hard to handle for me, or maybe im just not interested in it and decided to dropped out. But it was the exam period, can't drop out. Got expelled for failing one of their modules twice. Decided to go to ns first.

During my NS period, found my calling in audio engineering/production and been trying to register for other local diplomas through DAE. Got rejected from NP and TP. Failed the interview at RP(Dip in Sonic Arts) cos they said my portfolio wasnt strong enough.

Almost gave up studying. Almost ORD-ed, and found out that Lasalle fees can be subsidized, so i tried registering. Registered for the Audio Production, built my portfolio, went for the interview. Everything seemed well.

Sadly, got rejected also.

Saw this WSQ Diploma thing from the mediacorp website. Compared the modules with other local polys, the modules are somewhat similar.

Not financially capable to go to private diplomas.

The course fees that needed to be paid for this WSQ Diploma is 6k and fortunately, can be paid with PSEA and i have just enough to cover everything.

Felt like i made the right move to go for this WSQ Diploma but after seeing this thread, starting to doubt if i will land a job after getting the cert.

For art media industry, consider a few things
1) look at their lecturers profiles and their portfolios
2) look at their graduates profiles and their portfolios
3) look at their existing students profile and portfolios.
4) what are the connected studios and affiliated studios?

Art industry is mainly about how good your skills are and how good your portfolio is.

Can a person with WSQ diploma in Audio engineering land a high paying role? Yes

Similarly, Can another person with the same WSQ diploma get nothing? Yes

Once you are in the industry, you need to have the passion for:
a) in the sound and audio engineering & editing field
b) to keep improving your skills and know-hows
c) the mental toughness to "tahan" the first few years whereby you might be only doing junior level tasks
