Kompany picks Van Dijk ahead of Terry, Rio as PL’s greatest
Date published: Wednesday 11th September 2019 2:41

Vincent Kompany believes Virgil van Dijk is the greatest centre-half in Premier League history.

Liverpool star Van Dijk was named UEFA Player of the Year in August after helping guide the Reds to Champions League glory in Madrid.

The Dutchman has transformed Jurgen Klopp’s side into Premier League title challengers and is considered by some silly people to be the best centre-half in the history of the division.

Kompany can count himself among that group after being asked ahead of his testimonial who he considered to be the greatest.

“I would bring it back to Virgil van Dijk,” he said.

“He’s not been on the scene as long as Terry, Ferdinand, who have been around for a long time. But the signs he’s shown in the last few years show if he had been around longer he’d have been at the top for a long time

“The Liverpool before Van Dijk and after are a completely different setup. I’ll give him that one

There are not many defenders who can walk into a top team and improve the defense by leaps and bounds

Fabio Cannavaro for me. Reads the game well, clean player and even though short, outjumps most players thru sheer grit and determination.

Moi idol.

Glad that the international players came back without injury.
Got to get that three points to keep our distance away from Man C,
and get one over fat Bruce
Not surprise if we start with Shaq.

2019/20 PREMIER LEAGUE HOME KITS RANKED
Sportswear giant Nike are set to scale back on boot deals for players, with industry insiders believing the move is due to having to spend more on club kit deals.

Contracts with the top clubs in world football have become increasingly lucrative business, with Nike believed to be keen to add Liverpool to their portfolio in a Premier League record deal.

As a result, some individual players could see their boot deals cut back - despite recent reports the brand are looking to make Raheem Sterling the face of Air Jordan's branch into football boots in a £100million deal.

Their new approach is banking on the fact their boots, sportswear and training kit remains extremely popular in the market, with a belief players will want to stick with the brand even if the money being offered is less lucrative.

Liverpool kit deal 'to smash Premier League record' as sportswear giants battle it out

According to reports, Liverpool have been offered the third highest kit deal in history, and the biggest in Premier League history, worth more than the £74million a year rivals Manchester United currently earn from Adidas each year.

Nike already supply Barcelona in a deal said to be worth £99million annually, as well as having deals with Premier League clubs Chelsea , Tottenham and Brighton .

Liverpool's current deal with New Balance is set to expire at the end of the season, with Nike looking to take over form the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

They have already signed a remarkable 15-year contract with Chelsea, taking over their kit deal from Adidas, worth around £60million a year.

Tottenham take home around half of that amount in their Nike deal.

Cristiano Ronaldo's eye-watering Nike income revealed as sponsorship details leaked

It now appears those increasingly competitive kit deals with clubs could come at a cost to some players, who will see their individual deals scaled back.

Details of Cristiano Ronaldo's personal contract with Nike were recently leaked by Der Spiegel from the latest installment of Football Leaks.

The Portuguese superstar is said to earn at least £145million over the course of his 10-year deal with the sportswear giants.

Sterling is also pondering a huge deal of his own which would see him involved as the face of Air Jordan as the company branch into football

I would like to see Salah replaced by Shaq
Firmino replaced by AOC.

Then after 60 minutes Firmino and Salah come back on to stretch legs a bit.

If winning 3-0 at 75 minutes, sub Lallana for Gini or Hendo.
