I didn’t apply in the May window! I applied last year September and this year February. Though the email says I’m selected for the selection interview, it didn’t provide any details of subjects and date. Is it normal?

I haven’t got anything like that before. But since you have an email to say you are selected, I think it’s a good sign! Maybe they will ring you up this week!

[Update] MOE replied my email:
"We would like to clarify that the email sent to you on 16 August 2019 indicating that you were not required to sit for the Music Audition between 19 – 23 August 2019 was because more time was needed to process your application.

As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to sit for the English Language Entrance Proficiency Test (EL EPT) and Music Audition. These have been tentatively scheduled on 21 October 2019 and between 12 – 19 November 2019 respectively. We will contact you with more registration and payment details closer to the test dates."

I thought I did not need to sit for EPT since there was no news.
Any advice for EL EPT?

Didn't expect the EPT to haunt you a 2nd time. Do hope you can pass it and join in time for the December stint! You could try asking badchoices for advice, he/she went for the August one!

I have not recieved any EPT update this week. Which worries me as I do not fulfil any of the exemption criteria. Did anyone else from the June window receive the new EPT availability too?

For those who have attended their interviews, is it content-based or class-management based? I read somewhere in this thread that the panel will test your content knowledge? :eek:

I guess we are still in the same situation! I believe they can't possibly reject us now after making us wait for 9 weeks, and counting. No news is good news afterall haha.
@glutenmagic
It was a reply to my enquiry instead of an update of EPT availability. Perhaps I do not meet MOE criteria as I am Malaysian. Thanks and let's keep up the positivity.

@badchoices
PM received and replied. Appreciate your advice for passing EL EPT. Thanks!

@Danielle
I believe both content and class management are being assessed. Keep it simple and teach 1 relevant content based on the syllabus. Good luck!

Talked to teachers to understand more about teaching role nowadays.. want to share some info here

They advised to consider really really carefully why we want to go into teaching, and must be sure its for the right reason. can a passion to teach sustain us in the job over long run. this is because while admin workload has reduced, teaching is still a demanding and busy job nowadays, with all the committee work, CCA, marking papers, form class, student counselling, difficult parents, difficult students etc etc. it is not easy. its not simply a weekday job definitely.

another reason is teaching offers less options in jumping to a different career in future, when we want to move. there are less 'marketable skills'. the likely choice is of course be a private tutor.

Also talked to a PE teacher. He said that now PE teacher only specialised in teaching PE, across both Pri and Sec level. while PE teacher has lesser academic-related work, they have more CCA, committee work and ad hoc projects to take on, because they are perceived to be 'less loaded' compared to academic subject teachers. thats what happening to him now - taking on a lot more cca and organising sch projects like sports day, exams logistics etc.

PE also seems to have much less prospect for progression. we see much less Level Head, Vice P or P w PE teaching background. Thats just the way it is. Perhaps got to do with the big environment and common perception.

I applied for Sec Math, but shortlisted for PE. Now still considering and facing some dilemma.
